like the ring exchange, the vows, the walking down the aisle, etc. ... Some traditions I like, some I don't. ... The history of the veil comes from a number of things like preventing the husband from seeing his bride before they were married, and protecting the bride from demons, and that sort of thing, which just seems silly to me today...

Are you saying you will have no rings, vows, flowers, etc.??? You do not even want to know the "history" of wedding rings if you think veils are bad. :D Think about what these things mean in modern times, not what they meant thousands of years ago. Seriously, like I said, choose what YOU feel comfortable in and enjoy your special day!

Reading everyone's posts has just brightened my day. Lamine and I will also be doing a big to do in Senegal apart from the ceremony here in the States. I wish that our families could celebrate together, but with the visa process (grrr...) it's just not possible. Oh well. Just another excuse to wear fun clothes and eat tons of food and be with good people.

Off topic---There is an AMAZING thunder/lightning storm going on here. Am now going to go back to really read everyone's posts.

no no no... I'm saying I WILL have rings and vows and all of that... lol which is why I don't feel the need for a veil. And if I think of what it means in modern times, then the veil is just a vanity thing... I know the history of wedding rings... But what I see rings meaning in modern times is a visual statement that I am TAKEN and have chosen to spend my life with someone and made that commitment. I suppose that's still sort of a sign of 'ownership'... LOL But I don't think of it that way. I prefer the idea that the ring symbolizes the never ending love. :) Besides... if the hubby wears a ring too, then I own him as much as he owns me.. bwah hahaha.... ;)

Side note.. Maverick, you have some great connections! lol I hope you're able to meet your deadline :)

I'm sorry. I should have noted that this is what the veil means in our modern times.

As the groom places the veil over his bride, he makes an implicit promise to clothe and protect her. Finally, by covering her face, the groom recognizes that he is marrying the bride for her inner beauty; while looks will fade with time, his love will be everlasting.

The veil stays on her face until just before the end of the wedding ceremony when they are legally married, then the groom helps lift the veil off her face to signify acceptance and union.

It isn't like lip gloss or a flower in the hairdo.

Peace to you on your happy day.

usagroom your number is going down on igors list! You may get an NOA2 whislt you are seeing your girls. I got my "touch" when I was with Nan... maybe it will be a common theme for the April group. Good luck. Ken how much longer will you be with Leidys? Will you maybe see a touch while you are down there with her?

So I was thinking about this the other day while putting my engine back into my truck (pictures to follow when she is back on the road.) How many people thought about moving to their SO's country? I almost did. But Nan knew I would not be happy there yet, but after she has spent the next five years with me in Hawaii, we will decide what to do from there. If I opt retire, I will be 40 and collecting a pension, so we might stick around the states for a bit, but we eventually want to go back to Thailand together, and just live off my pension.

So what kept every one from moving out with their SO?

Moved up 2 more slots on Igor's overnight! It's fun watching that list. I know I'll get the NOA2 before or when I am with my girls.

If we didn't have children I would be living in China now. We decided to live here in the USA until they all graduate from school and then we will retire in China.

I love watching Igor's list! I'm obsessed. :D

Lamine and I were originally planning on me moving to Senegal, but it would be much more difficult for me to start out in the kind of position I am now without being an unpaid intern. So, we're starting out here. We were thinking along the same lines as you Neil-we'll probably open it up to discussion again after five or six years. Who knows.

New people are still being added... so the "progress" is not as quick as one would hope... I realize this makes no difference as they are already in the system as well... just 5 approvals.. only go down 2... seems like a pattern.

Hmmmm. We may have already talked about this, but have you all prepared the documents for Packet 3 yet? If so, what have you done? I've got the I-134 done, and am just starting on some of the other paperwork.

We haven't started on that yet. We have all the info for it, though, and Ian's sending off for his police certificate tomorrow.

How's Lamine's mom? Better?

Lamine's mom was in and out of it most of yesterday and today, but she woke up this evening and was talking a little and they managed to feed her a little as well-the first time in three days that she's eaten. She's at home with family, and the docotrs just gave her a couple of prescriptions and sent her home. They seemed to believe that she would be all right. I'm hoping that's true.
