sorry to hear about your SO attaya_girl.

I only jumped on here to say:

Nan just picked up her passport  She is going for her medical and polics cert next week! I am so stoked I do not even know what to do!

Good for you! I'm so happy that you don't have to wait as long as you thought you might!

Thanks for all the concern and good wishes. No one was injured, and the community is really grouping together to put a roof over everyone's heads during the rainy season. We've been in nearly constant contact, and he seems in better spirits today. It's amazing how the community is taking care of one another.

Happy belated 4th to everyone. I took advantage of the long weekend and spent my time in Glacier National Park with a group of friends. It was good to get away for a little while. Hope everyone is doing well!

That's great news. I hate hearing about displaced people around the world. I visited my relatives yesterday - one of whom asked, "What are you doing visiting women in South America when there are women here?" The conversation shifted to Gov. Sanford, but did I mention, this same relative also called me, "Fat" as I sat at the dinner table eating with everyone when she walked in? Los Angeles is like that. Extremely superficial people live there and think that the world revolves around them 24/7. They were all concerned when they heard that my Mother is also making the trip.:dance:

Ha ha Ken it sounds like you have some fun times with your relatives. LA is horrible with people like that. One of my buddies asked me awhile back why I didn't just find a chick here in the states, and I laughed at him. I think imports are better. (he already has an ex at age 25)

Hope everyone had a sweet 4th!

I have experienced this many times with people asking "aren't women in America good enough for you?" I always say of course, but aren't women in the rest of the world good enough for me too? As for superficiality, it is the Californian way (others too). The superficial think that love/marriage is just an applied layer of makeup and it can be easily removed. Love and marriage is a life, not to be taken lightly.

Ken, I can't believe your family said those things! That's awful! How exciting, though, that your mother is going with you. That's coming up, isn't it?

Nill, That beach looks AMAZING! Not too shabby....

Hope everyone has a good Monday after the long weekend!

k, I feel compelled to speak up, as I am moving to California, and my fiancé lives there currently.... lol

mind you, he IS actually from Canada, and spent 90% of his life in Canada, so he probably doesn't fit the typical 'Californian' description, as he's only lived there for just over a year... and, I've only been to California once, for 2 weeks, and haven't been to 'LA' specifically... (I'm moving to Santa Barbara, which is about a 2 hour drive north of LA).. BUT that said, I really don't think everyone over there is as superficial as some may think! My future in-laws have been living there for 8 years, and are some of the sweetest, non-judgmental and most welcoming people that I have ever met (whereas, my ex's mother was a witch).

In fact, I'VE had moments of doubt in this stupid visa process, and asked my fiancé why he doesn't just find someone there, cause it'd be easier... lol he's never ever given me any doubt about his love and commitment for me... and I'm quite content to move to the 'superficial' land of California for him. :)

ok there, I said it. lol

Ha ha I don't think anyone in our group here fits the superficial bill. The LA area of cali is just known as being that way. Too many fake people. If you or you SO were one of them, I am sure you would not be on here, and be as nice, open, and supportive as you are. I like California a lot, just not some of the people. As for your fiancé finding someone else, I laughed when I read that, I asked Nan the same thing about 8 months ago. She laughed at me and said "who else can make me laugh like you, and will love me like you?" I think this whole process just reaffirms the bond we make with our SO's.

Hope everyone is having an awesome monday. I think we will start to see some april approvals soon. :star:

only 18 days until usagroom hopefully gets to leave to see his girls...

ashenflowers, I'm sure your SO and his family don't fit that description in any way, shape or form. :)

Nill, I hope that you're right about the approvals. I'm having an "I think I'm going to lose it" kind of day.

usagroom! You're leaving so soon! I'm so excited for you! How long will you be in China?

Counting down the minutes until lunch so that I can call my fiance.....

Every day it gets closer... it has been over a year since we have been together... we are pinching ourselves... I will be there for a month!

I predict our NOA2 will arrive within a month from today.

Playing the waiting game...

300px-Map_of_sinitic_languages-en.svg.png

Those are the major languages in China, each with hundreds of dialects. My girls speak mainly Mandarin, nearly all Chinese in the USA speak Cantonese. Of course I can speak about 50 words of Mandarin, that's it.

Grrrrr....I just checked my mail box and my heart nearly jumped from my body when I saw the USCIS seal on the envelope. My hands were shaking as I opened it, but it was only the stupid change of address confirmation. Of course it was. Why did I expect anything else? I know I have at least a month to go, but I feel so, so, so let down....

At least I can say "Thanks for the warning", since I may have that same thing waiting for me. :) We're hoping for approval by the end of July! If you hope for it, maybe it will come true (or does that only work in Disneyland?) :)

Chin up!
