Yeah, these lawyers only deal with Chinese people... I think. It's located in a Chinese town and they don't speak much English. He also filed Citizenship with them, so he trusts them.

Though, we're doing the rest of the process ourselves.

Wait, your SO is Chinese? If you don't mind, from what province in China?

AFAIK, no lawyer charges $150 for the entire K-1 visa process (start to final finish), especially not bilingual and going to the USEMs in China. I researched it pretty good. Our advisor is not a lawyer, don't really need one unless there are major issues.

He's originally from Taiwan, actually.

But I guess they still call themselves Chinese.

And it may have been 200+ I dont really remember. They filled out the paperwork too... but only the actual petition, we take care of the rest.

Ahhhhhhhh from the Taiwan island ROC (Republic of China), different from the mainland PRC (People's Republic of China). Not even the same language, mainland speaks and writes Mandarin. Taiwanese/Cantonese make up 80%+ of the "Chinese" in America and most USA "Chinese" restaurants. My girls are from Hunan province in the PRC. They don't consider themselves the same country at all. You'd laugh but folks from Taiwan, Japan, and the Koreas know that folks from the PRC are pretty snooty about all that. "One day the deity picked up Western China and shook it and all the nutty and fruity people rolled into Taiwan, Japan and the Koreas." hahahahaha

A little music for you all (it is a Chairman Mao song from a very popular film)

The east is red, the sun is rising

China has brought forth a Mao Zedong.

He works for the people's welfare.

Hurrah, He is the people's great savior.

Chairman Mao loves the people,

He is our guide,

To build a new China,

Hurrah, he leads us forward!

The Communist Party is like the sun,

Wherever it shines, it is bright.

Wherever there is a Communist Party,

Hurrah, there the people are liberated!

[poor Mao to be letdown by corruption as has been the case in all Communist revolutions]

Oh, Mao was too old and crazy at the end, no apologies, but in the Cultural Revolution he was apalled at how Chinese were treated but he could do little. As the recent book by Zhao said, Mao and Deng could only do so much.

Oh just ignore my political and philos tangent, those were my double majors at the university... sorry.

Time for Allie to call USCIS.

Time for others to call the Consulates.

Time for me to try and find my freaking mind because I lost it.

Hm, interesting because he said pretty much all of Taipei spoke Mandarin, which he speaks. He doesn't know a single word of Cantonese.

Good morning!

Starting to get stressed out about finishing all of my work before I have to leave  I'm going to be gone at least a week, then another week or so to help him adjust--so, so, so worth it, though :)

Yes, interesting, doesn't know how to speak Cantonese. Not a big surprise because the languages are so regional. I wonder what my girls would say he spoke. I know that the PRC switched to simplified Mandarin and the ROC uses traditional. In the USA the "Chinese" who speak Cantonese make sure their children can read and write Mandarin. In my son's Mandarin class it is mostly kids from Taiwan.

wow... that's FAST Jauque.... And the day before your medical??? Will they just say your visa is approved pending medical?

We received our NOA2 hardcopy last Thursday. I was hoping my fiance would wait until I arrived so that we could open it together, but he didn't know what it was, or wasn't thinking or something, and just opened it. sigh. Oh well. lol To his credit, I arrived a day later than I was supposed to, due to THE MOST ridiculous flying experience I have ever had. 21 hour delay anyone? yeah... don't get me started. lol

Also, I'm having to call USCIS for the first time (eek), to change my address. I'm just wondering how quickly does an address change go into effect, and when they will start mailing ME (the beneficiary) information? I'm concerned I'm going to miss things in the mail. I just called them and listened to a lengthy prompt that said things about changing the address online, or changing it over the phone, but needing to send in a form?! UGH. I just wanted to change the address. How do I even do that? I can't find a spot on the uscis website to do so. I know a few of you have had address changes, so I was hoping to pick some brains on that.

From what I've read in the Canada forum it's fine to do the medical the day after and then just return the next day with the medical results.

Since you have your approval I would call the NVC and change your adress with them that way you know they will have the right adress on it when it gets forwarded to the consulate. I'm pretty sure after the USCIS sends it off they no longer have it available to them to make adress changes on the papers themselves.

Enjoy your trip and boo to flying delays!

Yeah, you don't want to change your address online or over the phone with USCIS. Have your fiance call NVC ASAP and change your address for you. :) Hope you're having a great time! Sorry it took you so long to get there, though!
