We brought quite a bit of evidence, leases, credit card statements with our names but no joint checking account. my husband is hungarian and has overstayed his tourist visa.... of course he has no ss# which made it hard for us to get a joint account plus he has no credit in the US either. yes, we were very lucky to catch the lady and give her the info she requested and we are crossing our fingers. there are a certain amount of points that you need to prove your residency in the state of new york....i recently had to prove this myself when applying for school and we were just shy of a few things. thank you all for the words of encouragement.

I'm sorry to hear about the delay in your approval. Maybe you will see your welcome letter in the mail soon. If I receive anything like that I am going to ask if I am approved before leaving and if there was something that I missed. I am preparing every day and I have everything except this years taxes which I will be filing next week. What did he write in your husband's passport if it is not too personal to ask.

LuLu you could have opened an account at any Bank of America. I opened one all by myself without a social and was even placed on my husband's CHASE account right after we got married.

Overstaying your tourist visa is pardoned when you marry a USC so that wasn't the reason they delayed in your approval. Did you have pictures of yourself together? Depending on how long you have been married I would say you should have get someone to validate that your marriage is real. I'm really sorry that they did not approve you right away.

I got married almost 2 yrs after meeting my husband, lived together since 2006 with a joint lease to prove it and will have our AOS interviewed after my second anniversary but I am still getting letters from friends who knew us before we got married stating that our marriage is real. We have joint lease, joint bank accounts, joint health insurance, I am his pension beneficiary and will be filing joint taxes. We have many many pictures together and as we love to entertain we have pix of friends over. Our birthday is a week apart so we share our birthday party as well and have pix of that too with both names on the cake. His surname on his birth certificate is his mom's maiden name but he has never used that name as it was changed when he was one year old and even though I have a notarized statement verifying that he is one and the same, I have called the school he attended and we are getting proof that he attended school in the name he used which is his dad's name. I have complied all the other information and proof that I need to bring based on my AOS interview letter and went the extra mile just in case. I am leaving no stone unturned which should leave them with no possible reason to tell us #######, and if they do I am going to question it...seriously.

I am preparing documents every day and I have everything except this year's taxes which I will be filing next week. I am preparing myself as if for battle lol, and heading there with too much information rather than too little. What did he write in your husband's passport if it is not too personal to ask?

what is a "stokes interview"?
