i really don t care who s right and who s wrong...this all event is horrible, and i just don t think it s the best place to do argue over this kind of stuff...

im sure uyall woudln t be f those were ur kids....i just don t understand how can such a tragic tread turns into a debate/PICKING at each other that will probably continue until one or the other gives up ...

Ultimately, when I compare countries that do restrict violence and horror from minors to those that do not, much like when it comes to guns, the statistics speak for themselves.

Germany severely restricts violent imagery. I've read numerous accounts of video games where people were changed to androids and blood colored green. Despite all of that, there have been school shootings and other acts of violence in Germany. No, I'm not referring to the Nazis, but modern day Germans in modern day Germany.

No sane person would play a video game, then go outside and murder the neighbors simply because doing such was possible in a game. For all the well-adjusted and sane gamers and movie goers, there are the relative few who cause problems.

In addition, parents should keep an eye on their children and although I know it's impossible to do such 24/7, these same parents need to know what their kids are watching and playing. It's not the fault or the responsibility of game developers or movie studios if someone's "Little Johnny" goes berserk.

Let suppose if the person haven't witness violence in video games, or movies. How many times throughout history have there been serial killers, rapists (the era of no guns and media) in the society? Have we been able to stop them? What about Caligula?

Throughout history, teens have been written about as killers nonetheless. What's different about it now? Nothing really. These people have some pysch problems. That is all.

That's a good point. Most actions related in violent video games are based on real life to some degree.

There weren't any well-made points in this thread - its the same old guff rehashed a thousand times. We shouldn't even go off on these silly tangents in the first place - and wouldn't if BY weren't constantly trying to find meaning (and someone to blame) in senseless acts, based on nothing more than a 3rd person commentary of the events.

Yep - there have always been unstable people who commit crimes (Jack the Ripper?).

Its just ridiculous to suggest that because the media fixates on extreme crimes that there is somehow more of that sort of thing about than there used to be. I can see why people might think that - but the media has the effect of training a microscope on a small area of the page and distorting perceptions of the rest of society.

In my experience as a kid, we were never exposed to that. That thought of killing someone just didn't happen. Though, the kids whose parents allowed them to do whatever they want. yes these kids were trying to be gangstas and got caught up in crime. How would teenagers in Australia have access to this in the 90's. Clearly movies. Now it's games as well as movies. I love shoot'em up games more than anyone. I love my xbox live service. But at the same time you get to hear kids playing who take it seriously or don't realize this is a game, make believe, it's not reality. Then if they are picked on they snap.

Don't get me wrong the issue is complicated. For incidents like columbine to stop we need to start with preventing bullying in schools. Which seems to be the norm here. Take the bad apples out and punish them for a change.

Again, games and movies do not make people more prone to violence, if you're already violent by nature/upbringing sure you can get a bad idea, just out of anything, i.e. all these shootings going on in the US the past few years, one problematic kid saw the other doing, and then it spreads out, for sure. They might copy what they see, but they're not doing it simply 'cus they saw it on TV, they don't become monsters 'cus they played Carmaggedon or watched Fight Club. I still maintain you can't blame movies/games alone for this type of behaviour. Preventing a problematic person from seeing anything violent doesn't guarantee they won't kill anyway.

As far as not being exposed to that decades ago, Humans are a violent species, we've always had violence in the things we do/see/experience. Just look at history. Your parents might not have let you see violent movies but kids in the 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s always played "bang bang", always exploded their little toy cars, used BB guns on little birds, etc. Humans are violent by nature, it's not the TV that makes us violent.

I don't think violent movies or games trigger certain behaviour, I mean, I'm not sure it's any worse than anything else, if the person already has a mental deficiency then anything can provoke violent behaviour. Before we had so many violence on TV and games, we already had several of such cases, probably way more than we've heard about as not everything was reported by the media and news from small towns didn't necessarily reach the media at all. It's a sad thing but violence is part of us humans and an ill mind can turn violent over anything. Upbringing might influence it, but is not the sole cause.

Wonder why the universal agreement which prevents actors from Drinking alcohol and even Smoking on TV?

If what people view on TV has no effect on peoples behavior, why all these restrictions on commercials too?
