But it doesn't make kids go knife their siblings, I don't believe so. Without a pre-condition it just doesn't happen.

In my experience as a kid, we were never exposed to that. That thought of killing someone just didn't happen. Though, the kids whose parents allowed them to do whatever they want. yes these kids were trying to be gangstas and got caught up in crime. How would teenagers in Australia have access to this in the 90's. Clearly movies. Now it's games as well as movies. I love shoot'em up games more than anyone. I love my xbox live service. But at the same time you get to hear kids playing who take it seriously or don't realize this is a game, make believe, it's not reality. Then if they are picked on they snap.

Don't get me wrong the issue is complicated. For incidents like columbine to stop we need to start with preventing bullying in schools. Which seems to be the norm here. Take the bad apples out and punish them for a change.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Bullying is part of human behaviour, it happens in all schools. All schools attempt to stop it. Why make this out to be a US problem when clearly it's not?

Another proof that violence has no contribution to violence in reality is yourself. Have you watched movies when you were younger, maybe 8 years old, like Night of the Living Dead? Or, Friday the 13th? Or, whatever? I know I did. I didn't turn out to be a serial killer, rapist, etc...

In high school literature class, they do teach good versus evil by giving examples within dramas written in books. An example is the crucible. It shows us what ignorance is. We don't quite understand ignorance if we have realize it. The Crucible shows that. 1984 by Geore Orwell. Without that book, the people probably will not be able to visualize what the government as a whole of "big brother is watching you."

As far as violence in TV and Games, it shows triumph over evil. It teaches ethics. Ever played Metal Gear Solid? Or, Streets of L.A.? You're always playing the person who is protecting peace. This is another way of looking at it.

These two comparisons cross over each other in terms of depicting reality on good versus evil.

Parenting plays a big role in childhood development. The community, and their school also contributes alot to that as well. This kid probably was in a neighborhood where there's alot of peer pressure. This peer pressure influences him, and gave him an ego. That ego manifests into 'I'm the strongest here, no one can mess with me.' That is probably what this kid expressed.

Movies and their level of violence (detail) has drastically changed from then. Nowadays, we have more and more kids growing up in single parent homes where the one parent is too busy working or doing drugs to raise a child. Totally different circumstances then. Not even 1 in 10 kids had a single parent when I grew up. Now I would say over half.

The problem is complicated and there is no easy fix but as I have said before, when you compare apples with apples like: US vs Australia, Canada, UK, New Zealand. The cause (differences) is quite noticeable. Well to me anyway.

Here's a thought...

Perhaps we accept that we can't predict these things, and stop trying to find scapegoats to explain them as though we can prevent such things by fixating on external "easy fixes" to make ourselves feel better.

These things are not rampant, despite how it appears in the news media.

Certainly they are tragic and reprehensible, but in a globalised society where people are essentially faceless and there is little sense of community, we don't and cannot know what's going on in someone's head.

It's not only a US problem. Obviously different countries, states and counties (US sense) deal with it differently. Bullying needs to be nipped in the butt from the get go. it's not as if the bullies are going to amount to something anyway so just pull them out of the school and send them to a 'special needs' campus. Personally I prefer sending them on a free exchange program to Singapore as they would straighten them out within a week. None of this 'libruls' Cleo tell me about your problems rubbish. Second lash to the mouth and I can personally guarantee he will shut his mouth. And even get rid of that dopey "what what" look a lot of kids now seem to have.

So, when we watch violence on video games as kids, it makes us violent, but if we use violence to try to correct behaviour it makes people docile and submissive?

I see.

Bullying also has its roots in the home - kids act out because of family problems or abuse.

Daaaaam, we actually agree on something.

It's called discipline. Worked well for humans for the last 3,000 years prior to the 60's movement.

Again though - they say bullies are themselves victims. Whether that be because of loneliness or some sort of exposure to domestic or sexual abuse.

Applying more abuse to such people likely won't have a good result.

What's likely needed are individual one-on-one approaches to deal with aberrent behaviour. Naturally that takes a lot of effort (which is why it often doesn't happen).

Good luck with that one...

So for 3000 years humans were civilized, organised and disciplined - until the 60's and Tim Leary came along and turned the garden of Eden into Soddom and Gommorrah.

Hmm...
