Hello people. I have been searching the proper information’s and so far I haven’t been able to find the answers. I hope you can help me out.

I have been with my American girlfriend for 2 years now and we decided for me to move in the USA and get married. I’m currently working in Prague, Czech Republic for Oracle and I hold a BA in Business Studies from an Anglo American University. Originally I’m from Macedonia.

The thing is that I really love my girlfriend and I’m willing to give up job here which is really well paid and move to the USA. So my question is what would be the procedure?

I’m more or less familiar with some procedures. I know we need to apply for the K1 Fiance visa and after I get it we would need to get married within 90 days. My question is how long I would need to wait until I get the entry visa to the USA? Also I would like to know once I move there and we get married, how long does it need to pass until I can start to work? Can I apply for a work permit right away or I would need to wait for like 7-8 months and then start working?

Also would it be easier if we got married in my home country and start the procedure that way or it’s better going with the K-1 visa?

My biggest concern is the working part. I don’t wanna give up my job here and go in the USA and wait for one year until I can start working.

So my biggest concern is when can I start working once I enter in the USA?

Thank you in advance people,

Cheers,

petition process 5-6 mos.

consulate process 2-3 mos.

working - 2-3 mos after application for EAD which occurs AFTER marriage

green card 5-6 mos after application

all times above are typical and YMMV

married outside USA then you could petition and apply for an immigrant visa and be able to work the moment you walk off the plane... might be better

YMMV

Thanks a lot for the info. How long does the second process last?Let's say we get married and I apply for an imigrant visa. How long will it take until I receive the USA visa?Maybe the second option is better since I can work until I obtain the USA visa and then move. ANy suggestions?

You would be able to enter the USA on a K-1 visa in 6-9 months and receive a green card or EAD 3-5 months after that, generally speaking. In our case it was 10 months, almost to the day, from filing to Green card but that was a bit faster than the "normal", we got lucky.

If you like to work right away when you get to the USA apply for CR-1/IR1, it's a marriage visa though. With K1 it will take time to wait to get the Employment Authorization Document (EAD). I'm just giving you another option because we never knew CR-1 before. If we only knew we could have done this one instead of K1.

I know this has been asked for so many times but what would be the difference between k3 and GR1 visa?

As I see it if I apply for a K1 it would take me around 6 months until I can start working plus another 6 months until I get the visa so the whole process from the moment when I apply and start working it will be 1 year. If I apply for the GR1 visa, I can work in Prague and once I get approved I can move in the USA. When I get the GR1 visa would I need to do some adjustments and again apply for a green card or?

GR1 I assume you mean CR1

CR1 is an immigrant visa and you are provided all the benefits of a permanent resident the moment you enter the USA which is much different than a K-3 which is a non-immigrant visa and needs a status adjustment after entry

YMMV

Sorry I meant the CR1. Thanks a lot for your help. I guess when I decide to move to the USA , we will go for the CR1 visa
