Hi All,

Im -like many- still awaiting my green card, EAD ect. Ive been doing voluntary work for a while just to keep my brain and mind sane

Basically theres a medical course at college that begins in May that I want to enroll in. My 1st question is- Am i allowed to do this?

My 2nd question is- The women who deals with enrolling students ect knows my situation but says i will probably be able to get Financial Aid to help me with fees. I just want to double check that this is ok and not breeching the Avidavit that says we are not allowed benifits ect. The aid is basically a bank loan that I have o pay back and the government are just saying to hold off interests rates antill i graduate. Is this ok?? I dont want to break any rules  Does anyone have ny actual experience on this matte?

Thanks

I think you will be fine. It is a loan, and you will be paying it back, of course with interest. You are an immigrant going to college, which is good, i cant imagine in my wildest dreams that the U.S would deny you that opportunity to go to college. I highly doubt this will be of any breaching of anything conidered 'governmental aid' its not walfare, its college and a loan, im sure you will be fine. Good luck.

Timeline

1. Going to school is probabaly okay. My husband is now going to school, but he was before as well...

2. You cannot get financial aid from the U.S. government until you have a green card or some other more permanent status (I'm saying this becasue maybe refugees and asylees can get aid???)- not as a K-1 visa holder waiting for his/her green card. This doesn't mean that you couldn't get outside scholarships, though.
