The consulate or embassy should have sent you what's called Packet 3. It contains instructions regarding what forms and documents you'll have to send them back before they schedule your interview, as well as instructions to obtain such documents.

The documents/forms they ask for in Packet 3 are, among others:

  • birth certificate
  • police certificates (criminal records);
  • passport;
  • DS230 part 1;
  • DS2001.

The best way to go would be getting in touch with the embassy and ask what this is about.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

well what had happened was we were waiting for packet 3 to come. after waiting 3 weeks we decided to call embassy and ask if it was sent. we were told they had to check and they would call us back. we got the call and the man told us that a letter was sent on june 15th requesting some documents. so we asked if they knew which address it was sent to. told again he would check and call back, ... he never called back...so we called next day and talked to another person. she said she would check and call back or fax...we waited and never recieved a call back sooo we called the embassy in usa and talked to the sweetest lady who didnt act confused like the other two previous people. she told us the letter was sent on 15th, told us what it was, said it was sent to this address and that we should have recieved it but since we didnt she said she would prepare us another letter and fax it before 5:30pm. sure enough she sent it as promised. so the letter just stated they needed the papers i mentioned before and she sent the DS form also. letter just said that once they recieve it they would contact us with further instructions. we talked to our lawyer and she said it was nothing to worry about and routine. so we just wondered since some of the things they asked for plus the form they sent are usually what they ask for in packet 3 but they didnt ask for police record or medical record. those seemed to be the only things missing.
