Nice to meet you and welcome to VJ. You have to meet or will be denied the K1 visa. It is extremely hard to get any type of hardship help from not meeting and the USC must have sufficient income to bring you to the states and the do the AOS adjustment of status. Good luck on your journey and maybe you need to just make arrangements to meet and then go from there.

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

Not to rain on your parade but meeting in person is a requirement that MUST happen for the K-1 Visa ... And if you are having trouble financially in regards to a trip to meet each other then you may have trouble with your bf making enough money to support you and meet the minimum requirements ... He would then need to find a co-sponsor ....

You may wish to choose the K-3 Visa which is a spouse Visa meaning you would have to get married then apply for the Visa ... This process can be lengthy as well ....

You guys may consider saving money so that you can meet and spend some quality one on one time .... Marriage and moving to a new country is a serious thing and there is no need to rush through this .....

Hi

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Unfortunately unless you have exceptional reasons for not meeting before marriage like religious reasons and (I think) maybe if there are exceptional reasons to do with finance for why you haven't met, it is highly unlikely they will approve the visa. Somebody else will be able to fill you in further though but I would think you would have to have really exceptionally circumstances for not meeting. Is it really wise to move abroad for someone you have not yet met.......?

I hope someone else has more info for you - if you look at the example I-129F form (Example Forms) and also look K1 section under Guides on this website, that will give you some more info.

Good luck

How can you even plan on marrying someone you have never met????

You should take time to meet at least once before you make the important decision to spend the rest of your life with this person.....

But there is no way a K1 would be approved if you have not met in person....

good luck

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the co-sponsor part - you're fiance would need to be able to prove he can financially support you (125% poverty level), or you would need a co-sponsor also.

Hey Rose - meeting in person is a very strict requirement unless you can explain the reasons why this should not apply to your situation! And not having enough money is not a valid reason.

If you can not meet now, then you may have to continue the long-distance relationship till such time that you are able to meet. Also keep in mind that coming here and settling down and eventually finding a job and working etc. is a tedious process and you may not be able to generate any income for quite a long time and in fact may drain away money for such things as marriage, insurance, immigration related applications etc., so be aware and be prepared - waiting may be better, so you can establish yourselves and not have the relationship fail because of finances (vey common.) Good Luck

You cant come to america and do K1 and stay..... you would have to return to the UK and wait for the K1 to be approved....

As for finding work after you have your K1 and are here, it all depends where you will be living... but to work you will have to file for Adjustment of Status and Employment Authorisation Document and wait for the EAD to be approved then get a Social Security Number before you can start work....

Its not just a case of getting here.... you will need about $1000 to cover all the fees and costs of AOS and EAD and your future husband would need to earn enough to support you both (125% of the povery guidelines) or have a co-sponsor...

You should read the guides here on the forum they will explain all...

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!

And like everyone is saying..... meet in person first before you get married. People can be awesome on the phone and e-mail and all that, but you just may not be compatible in person. It happens. Ensure all that one-handed typing works in person too!

Can I ask where you are living right now ? That will have a large impact on the ease with which you can be granted a visitors visa, never mind how hard it might be to get a K-1 approved.

Visitor visas are only granted to people who can prove strong ties to their home country and a prior intent to return home at the end of their visit. Unless you can do this then a visitor visa may not even be possible. In addition, on arrival in the US you have to be able to convince the CBP officer that you still have those ties to home. If you don't have significant proof then you could get denied entry at the border and be returned home.

If your US "Fiance" cannot afford to come and visit you and you can't afford to visit him, how do you hope to support yourselves if you are successful in your entry to the US anyway ??

As previously suggested take some time to read the guides section of this website. It's far more complicated than getting on a plane and getting married !!

I'm just going to stick some scenarios out there...

If your personal reasons have anything to do with one or other of you currently being married to someone else then that will also cause problems for any kind of K visa. You both have to be legally able to marry at the time the application is sent and that statement has to be backed up with copies of divorce decrees etc..

Working visas are almost impossible to get hold of unless you are highly skilled in an area that is lacking workers already in the US. Most working visas require sponsorship by an employer in the US and you have to really be in demand for a US employer to consider going through that process to employ you.

I'd strongly suggest that you lay out your story within the public forums. It would probably suprise you what varied stories people have come from within this forum and the more people you pose your question to, the more likely people will be able to help you.

The guied section is located at the top of the screen... just click on the "Guides" tab and choose k-1 to see what the process entails.
