I don't mean to imply that an attorney is absolutely needed in every case, just that it may be helpful in some.

Dear everyone, My finance is an American, and I speak perfect English. We've been together for 4 years. I wonder if I need to hire an attorny to file k1/k3 application for us.

If you have had a 4 year relationship and can provide evidence of this more than likely you will have no problems with the consulate. My wife interviewed in English, this helped show a common language.

Note K-1 requires marriage in the USA after getting visa, K-3 or CR-1 requires marriage BEFORE filing the visa petition. If considering K-3, look at the better option (CR-1) this visa costs less, gets green-card on entry to USA, and for GUZ the processing has been within 30 days of K-3, sometimes getting K-3 dropped in favor of the CR-1.

what the chances are if we apply on our own WITHOUT an attorny?

GOOD if you have no red flags. We did K-1 and had no problems with the consulate. No Lawyer used.

Most on VJ are DIY and did not use a lawyer.
