Dear everyone, My finance is an American, and I speak perfect English. We've been together for 4 years. I wonder if I need to hire an attorny to file k1/k3 application for us.

what the chances are if we apply on our own WITHOUT an attorny?

Does/did everyone here have an attorny to help you apply for k1/k3??

Thank you very much for your help. Looking forward to hear some advise soon.

It's your choice and it's all a matter of preference. Do you feel comfortable filling out forms and following instructions?

It's all up to you.

My experience? I regret hiring one........

Good luck to you, it''s your choice.

PM me for any AP or AR relating to the NBI

follow the guides here and ask questions, you'll do fine without an attorney, if you don't feel comfortable filling out forms, then hire an attorney...

An atty will only cost you a lot of money, and slow down your application process. Most everyone will tell you this. Atty has no magic tricks to get your visa approved sooner.

It definitely slowed us down

Your chances are exactly the same to get a visa. Your chances of having more money when you get your visa are much better

Most people here are "do it yourself=ers" That is the purpose of the site, to help people doing it themsleves.

If you can read and follow instructions and ask questions here, you do not need an attorney. Once you read the instructions you will understand there is virtually nothing an attorney CAN do, except fill in some online forms with infromation YOU provide.

An attorney could help you understand that you cannot apply for a K-1 if you are married or a K-3 if you are not. An attorney could help you understand that the USC needs to file a petition first in order to determine your eligibility to apply for a visa at a future date.

YMMV

My experience is that hiring a lawyer to represent your visa is SUCH a waste of money. My mother hired an attorney for her K3 visa to sponsor her husband to the U.S. and she ended up wasting thousands of dollars! I think following directions carefully and always double checking to make sure everything is filled out correctly. Visa Journey has many great example forms that I followed. Its really a great place~ i'm very thankful!
