So my husband and i are torn about what to do after I move. I'm looking for insights from K3 applicants. It seems there are a lot of K1's and CR1's on VJ but less K3'ers. So I just want to find out what other K3's are planning ahead when they move. I have been married just over a year and hopefully approved on my April interview. I will be moving on May 1st and torn between the two:

1. are you planning to file for AOS right after POE along with EAD & Advance parole to receive 2 yr GC ($1010)... then lift conditions 2 years later($545)?

or

2. file EAD first ($340) and waiting until 90 days before your 2nd year marriage then filing AOS ($1010) to receive the 10 yr GC? --- possibly(?) renewing EAD (more $$$) if AOS isnt approved before EAD expires

I was thinking the same thing just before moving here, as it was just before our 1st anniversary...I was advised AGAINST it as they don't look at that very kindly when it comes to the interview...they will question why you waited so long for AOS. Hope this helps a bit...good luck with your interview and the move!

We are doing #2. I dont think alot of K3 applicants think of it as an option really.

editted to add that we have already been married over a year and it wont be such a long time to wait after he arrives before filing AOS.

If our whole process was over and done with within 6-8 months, like some.. I would probably think differently. But, its no big deal for us. If all goes well, we will have been married 16 months already by the time he arrives.

I'm planning on #1, but yeah, depends on when he gets here. If it takes another year for him to get here, we will have been married almost two years anyway, so might as well wait a few months.

I was going to wait for the 10 yr card but the job market sucks, so I will pay now while I still have the cash. It means I don't have to pay for a new medical, just the vaccination supplemental so I save $80 - BUT we lose the $600 tax return stimulus because she wont have a SS#.

Then again, maybe she can get some kind of job and that earlier start-work timeframe will make up for that.

K-3 visa holders do not need Advance Parole.

Option #2 looks good but I think EAD valid for one year ($340) and if AOS not approve before EAD expire then people ended up paying $135 extra (not bad) for EAD again compare to option #1.

Oh I dont need Advance Parole? that would be a relief as I live 5 hours from the border and would like to visit my family often

I thought you need that when you file AOS as you cannot cross the border if your application is in process?

I think I will take #2 as well. It would give me 7-8 months break from filing and all my necessary forms/medical/etc are still going to be good & eligible. It would be awesome if EAD is processed faster too. extra bonus for me

I also didnt know #2 was an option until recently. I thought I had to file AOS right away. but I msg'd some VJ'ers and they said they are happy with #2.
