I dont see any reason why your employer doesnt want to take your extension letter to let you keep working. The letter says clearly "Your conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year. During the one-year extension you are authorized employment and travel". If they still having any doubts about it, they may be call USCIS to ask them if it is a valid document.

To call USCIS and talk to a rep u should dial option 1,2,3

The I-9, which is used and kept by US employers, does not include extension letter in their list of acceptable documents. The Immigration Reform and Control Act imposes penalties to the employer for I-9 noncompliance.

I went to Social Security office to request a new SS card without restrictions. They accepted my application, but said that it will take much longer than usually as the immigration is showing my maiden name as my name, so the records don't match. It is strange since my GC and my original SS card have my new married name on it. I am not sure how is this possible? At least they accepted my application. Now it is wait and see game.

I also have an infopass appointment on Friday to try to get a stamp in my passport. The problem with that is if they take my GC away and the extension letter (not sure if they require original) once this passport expires, and I have to send it for renewal, I will have nothing to prove my status other than the copy of extension letter. It is too close to my GC expiry date, so I don't think it's a good idea to send my passport to Canada for renewal right now.

This has been such a vicious circle, and I am so stressed out, even though I know I can legally work, and I did everything expected of me to remove conditions, still the question remains how do I prove to my employer that I am allowed to work? :(

I went for infopass appointment to Santa Ana on Friday, and got a stamp in my passport after some hassle. First they rejected to stamp my passport because my green card is still valid, and after talking to their supervisor they stamped it, but dated 04/26, the day after GC expires. It was not a very good experience, they were abrupt with me, almost bordering rude. At one point, I was almost in tears, but managed to keep my calm.

I hope I will get approved within a year, and that I don't have to go for another infopass appointment. For now, my employer is satisfied and that's what I needed.

Thanks everyone, and especially Redneck-NOVA, on valuable advices and information.

Hi Senka,

I don't know about the employment issue...but I can try to help you with the Canadian passport

re-newal issue here...

If it helps, I renewed my Canadian passport recently, and at the time of renewal I had my expired 2yr green card and 1yr extension letter (heck, I even crossed the border with that). In fact, they didn't even ask for such, in terms of American identification, as identification-wise as all they want really to see something that current and not expired. So American-wise, I just showed them my valid US Driver's License (and my US marriage certificate), and I was good to go there. So yes, go ahead and renew your Canadian passport, if you want to, even if you have an expired green card.

For more information about my recent Canadian passport renewal, you can read about it here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...c=180242&hl=

Hope this helps. Good luck on the rest of your immigration journey too.

Ant (Still waiting for I-751, Still waiting for Baby...)

P.S. Congrats too, on getting your passport extension stamp recently. Sorry that they gave you such a hard time there though...
