I saw on another post, that when going for the K1 interview, MTL would like to see the marriage certificate. The issuing county where I live (and where we will be getting married) only issues Marriage Certificates 33 days prior to the wedding. Our wedding is on 7/17/2009. April 16 is wayyyy further out than 33 days. Do we apply for one anyway or should I just print out the information for my country where it says that the certificate is good for 33 days. In addition, I have proof that the wedding is on 7/17 (a postmarked save the date card).

Suggestions??

3/19/12 - RFE

5/3/12 - RoC APPROVED!!!

I'm not sure where you read this, but you don't need a marriage license at your interview (a marriage certificate is what you get after the wedding ;) )

You don't actually even have to prove what date you plan to get married. They might ask you when you plan to get married. But you basically have 90 days from when you enter so they don't care what day!

Okay, now I feel rather quite stupid! I was reading a post for someone going through CR1, not K1. Oyyyyyyy.......

JulyBride - I just noticed that we met our fiance's online the same year! Back when meeting online was sooo not that popular, LOL.

We may try and apply for our license this month...but only cause we plan on going up to NJ and we read that they are good for 90 days... we will not have any other chance to go after that and it takes a few days to process.... So just by chance...I may have mine before then, I figure it wouldn't hurt to have it with me?

They won't ask you for it on a K1 :) Why bother applying for it until you're closer to the wedding date?
