I remember when I would go to see the Star Trek movies in the theater there would be very few women there and the rest would be guys who hardly ever saw the light of day...

I wonder if they are going to do another series. I need a weekly ST fix. Luz keeps asking me why I watch Enterprise over and over. Maybe I will dig out my original series DVD's for a change of pace.

have you ever watched Stargate? it is a pretty good show, especially the first 3 or 4 seasons..

I saw the first movie. I never started in on the series though. Looks good, just never got started on it.

you should ..... like I said the first seasons are the best.. it kind of went downhill after that but it was still good...

I'm somewhat looking forward to this movie. I'd like to think it'll be awesome, but... I'll just wait and see what the reviews say. Even if it is great, I never go to movies as soon as they open. It's way too crowded.

I think my favorite ST movie was the second one -- Wrath of Khan. Something about that film really worked for me. One movie I really disliked was Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The story seemed lacking and the uniforms were horrendous. At the uniforms used from ST2 to ST6 looked more military or at the very least, not completely stupid.

I tend to think the odd-numbered Star Trek movies are worse than the even-numbered films. Maybe that's just coincidence, but that's what I've found.

One thing about Star Trek that I never understood was... why would a starship take physical damage if it has shields raised? For the longest time that didn't make sense to me. Then one day, after watching some sort of documentary on bulletproof armor, a thought popped into my head. What if shields in Star Trek are similar to kevlar body armor? That may sound weird, but if someone wearing kevlar is shot, they won't sustain serious injuries or die, but they'll have an awful bruise or a broken rib. Taking that concept over to Star Trek, I see shields as provided protection from serious damage and destruction, but minor damage can still occur.

yeah I think that is the general consensus ...

I'm definitely looking forward to it :) I like J.J. Abrams' work, and I'm intrigued with the choice of Zachary Quitno (Heroes' Sylar), and the actor playing the young Kirk also looks good. It seems to be a kind of reenvisioning of the Star Trek backstory...whether that will be good or not remains to be seen, but I'm optimistic :P

That analogy is pretty good. The shields are a force field that creates a kind of cocoon around the starship which deflects objects moving at high speeds as well as intense energy sources. Their power isn't infinite, however, and some energy will be transferred through the shields to the ship. The power of the shields becomes weaker with sustained assaults, so more energy reaches the ship, causing increasingly critical damage.

I'm a Trekker since birth pretty much, and hubby and I are very much looking forward to this next movie, and will likely attend a midnight show if the local cinema gets it.

I am not happy about a few of the cast, but I'll suck it up and go see it, and try to ignore the fact that they passed over a potentially great Scotty for one who just doesn't quite cut it IMO. :P

May is a busy month for movies this year. Looks like the Spring Blockbusters are back!

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I prefer Trekker too.

I can't freaking wait for this movie! I've been watching the series of movies this week, starting with the Wrath of Khan (I like the first one, but it's so old now that it's lost some appeal in terms of technology). I'm on The Voyage Home now and will finish it between my tv shows

I'm a little worried about Zachary Quitno playing the Vulcan in the movie, since I already equate him to being a very dark and evil character in "Hero's", which I'm a huge fan of.

I too grew up watching Star Trek, and loved it. Star Trek TNG was also addictive to me, along with DS9 and Voyeger.

As for Stargate... I totaly love that show, but it did change after Col McNiel made Gen! I also like Stargate Atlantis. SG uses a lot of the same kind of technology introduced in Star Trek, such as transporters and shields, which they aquired from the Asguard.

I just love SciFi!!!
