Searched and Searched- Couldn't find- Oath Question

I have a couple of questions that I didn't find an answer to here or elsewhere for that matter. I tried Yahoo answers- and that was a joke.

We're curious about how/ if you get the option to take your oath at your interview? If not, is there a list somewhere of where your local oath location will be?

I'm brimming with curiosity, and can't seem to find any answers- I live in Northern Indiana, and think I heard once that the oath is in South Bend Indiana, but that was long ago and could truthfully have been a dream ;*)

Any thoughts or info would be awesome!!

Hey there, from what I understand there is no choice for the oath, sorry!!! Either you have an interview in the morning and there is an oath ceremony in the same afternoon and if you're lucky, your IO offers you to take that one. Or there's an open slot in the next ceremony scheduled a day or two ahead. Or there is no oath ceremony scheduled the day of your interview or very soon and you have to wait a few weeks for ceremony to take place. I don't know about your specific area though.

Your supposed to get the option. That's not what happens thou because of the judges in the state decide if they want to grant authority to the Officers to administer the oath. I have spoken to the USCIS on several occassions and they have repeated the same thing...you can take your oath the same day...blah blah blah. It's annoying because every office in every state works differently. One would think since it's a federal organization the rules should apply all over. Good luck. Hope this helps.

What is there? Some odd 90 different field offices? Aren't they a part of one USCIS? No quite, each has there own set of rules. We live on the border between Milwaukee and St. Paul, hardly a couple of miles difference, but got stuck with St. Paul. In doing research, St. Paul loves to have a big party and has a history of oath ceremony delays going on for as long as a year. They like to get those numbers up to 1,500 before having an oath, not bad if you are on the tail end of things, but hell if you are first in line.

Made my wife write down, if she passed her interview to request saying the oath the same day, it's not the policy of the St. Paul office, but did get a commitment that she would get her oath letter within two weeks. Not much hope in that either if we had to wait another year. So I did contact my senator, helps that he is on the finance committee for the USCIS, so he organized a special oath ceremony at the St. Paul field office for 39 Wisconsin residents, that was done promptly. But why St. Paul? Another long trip for many of the people especially from Green Bay, but all were glad to get it over with.

Wife had to read the oath doing her interview and sign it, wouldn't that be enough? But the actual oath ceremony was just a lip service, was done in 30 minutes with most of it watching videos on a 27" TV set, but the certificate was real, DOS and SS thought so. Another long trip for us with the high price of gas, and two days lost pay.

Good luck with Indiana! If you find out anything let me know. I applied back in September and I am still waiting on an interview appointment, while all the rest of the september group have long since been approved. I called the helpline and all they could tell me was that Indy was working on September apps and to give it another month.

I live in Southern Indiana and have a two hour drive to Indy for the interview so I am hoping to get a same-day oath too.

I think it all depends - when I went for my citizenship interview in Denver, the examiner asked me after the interview, if I wanted to take the oath the same day as there were some no-shows.

Since I was in no hurry for traveling or sponsoring someone, I told her to give the spot to someone else because I could wait. I also needed to get back to work (The sooner I got back, the less time I would take off from my leave bank.) One of the things I will ask my wife to do is to ask for same day oath (we want to get her US passport and travel sooner than later). It wouldn't hurt to try and ask them. Good Luck
