I want to update this. The image that this ENTIRE thread was started for was the image in the signature. I was VERY CLEAR that that image was NOT appropriate on VJ and a TOS violation.

The image was violating:

Post Content intended to degrade, intimidate, or incite violence or prejudicial action against members of a protected group. For instance, racist or sexist content may be considered hate speech.

The member already knew that we had determined this image to be a TOS violation yet put it in their signature anyhow.

The moderator, while unable to remove the image for the signature decided to temporarily hide that members posts from today that other members were likely to read (and hence have to see the image). Since I was not online this may have actually been an ok thing to do. Frankly given that this image was SPECIFICALLY removed previously and in this thread I said it was a TOS violation, a suspension of this member is the right course.

Bottom line, the mod already posted to me earlier that they would "unhide" the posts once the signature was fixed by me.

I consider this issue closed.

Again this is probably something better over PM. sigh.

Per the TOS moderators are members too. There should not be threads or posts created just to "bash" mods.

Ewok,

This thread was created to call out a questionable mod-action. It was not created to "bash", therefore you let it stay open and even participated in it.

Am I to therefore assume that threads like this are ok, as long as the tone doesn't rise to the level of a lynching?

Also, it's recently come to my attention that a mod (I don't know which one) may have deleted all posts of a user (including posts that did not violate TOS) due to a problem with their signature. Do you condone this behavior by a mod, if in fact that is what happened? It's my understanding that you have the ability to edit signatures and that if a mod takes issue with a member signature, you should be the one who acts on it. I don't believe it's appropriate for a mod to simply remove all of that member's posts.

This type of discussion is fine. There have been other threads in other forums though that were designed to simply bash the mods.

If you read the moderator paragraph of the TOS it states that if someone has a problem with a moderator or their decisions, then they should contact the admin to review the issue.

So it is now against TOS to openly question a moderator?

I feel like I've stumbled into Soviet Russia

Fair enough, Ewok. It's your site. You've gone and put mod egos ahead the interests of the site, but that's ok. It's still your site :luv:

Hello All,

I'm somewhat new to this forum, but not the immigration process. I processed my ex-wife's GC, and her son (separately) about 10 and 7 years ago. I've recently remarried and in the middle of doing the process again. This forum is GREAT for most people going through the process. Even though this is my third time through the process it's great to have this resource.

However with that said, as in all forums of this type people stumble into topics or through their signatures are likely to overstep what I consider reasonable boundaries.

I've seen the cartoon in question because it was emailed to me directly by a former friend that is not happy with my conversion to Islam (which was 12 years ago and I still get such emails to remind me how unhappy he is with my decision). I found the cartoon to be very insulting to anyone from either the Middle East or is Muslim. The moderator was completely within his/her rights to remove it. In fact I feel that it was his/her obligation to remove such garbage from this forum. Of all forums on the internet, this is one of the last places I would expect to see such trash. After all most people on this site have decided for one reason or another to marry outside their comfort zone.

From my experience being married to someone from another country and culture requires a lot of patience and a willingness to go beyond the stereotypes to understand and love that person. If a person is the type that is willing to be hateful and unwilling to understand a culture or religion that they are not familiar with then they will have a maintaining a good marriage with someone from outside their comfort zone.

Thank you very much for you actions Captain Ewok and keep up the good work.

Iskandar

Honestly, for a photo like that, i think it was a good call for the mods

For the record two of my posts were deleted without any notice from the MODs. They were probably made invisible not really deleted but that's just my guess.

Since I didn't know which mod did it I started a thread to ask. I got no answer and the thread was locked.

After they were deleted twice William posted in the thread.

I've been working crazy hours this week so I haven't been around much.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I think this was mostly explained earlier in the thread. It was due to a TOS violation, but regardless I have already reminded the mods to ping members when there is a mod action taken :).
