I would think they might do a drug test anyway. Seems to be the norm in some locations, whether you say you've used in the past or not.

If it really has been a long time, I would be inclined to just say "no". You're not hooked up to a lie detector, and it's a medical exam, anyway. They are supposed to be finding out if you have any illnesses or conditions that would prevent you from working once you are in the States, not grill you on ancient history that has no bearing on your current medical condition.

I could see how a question such as "Have you ever taken drugs intravenously?" would have some bearing, since people who do so have a greater chance for HIV infection. But if you smoked pot in the past, it's nothing they really need to know about.

I don't think it's fair to ask, since a cursory glance at our nation's immigration laws obviously indicates that the people who wrote them were smoking something...

Becuase they may test for it whether you say you've used in the past or not,and it really isn't worth the risk.

*HAHAHA* I totally agree!!!! and besides if they tested for Mary J all the time.....most people trying to get a visa would be denied!! .....alcohol is 100x more damaging in my opinion.... It's a joke......nevermind the heroin our government gave the military in Vietnam!!

we're not seriously concerned about current drug use. i was actually asking about smoking pot like back in college and if that should be considered. i thought a few of you would be able to relate. just a thought.

I have NEVER done any kind of drug and saying you have will get you either a ban from the states or a waiver. I know someone who did that 20 years ago and they are banned from the US now.

Unless you are applying for a Government security clearance, your past drug use is irrelevant. Even when you apply for a security clearance, they factor in the timeline of your use, what you used and how often. Generally, college age use is considered experimental. Forgivable.

Since you are simply applying for a visa and your drug use was years ago, I would say: NO, I have not.

If you still use drugs, well, that is another story.

Medical form Ds-3026 asks whether you have an addiction or abuse drugs...A grocery list of them. My advice was to say no to that unless current. Is that wrong? Aren't there enough stumbling blocks in this process?

This is not entirely true!!! There is an admitted VJ'er who used, cleaned up and MANY years later was honest and now has visa in hand! Sucess Stories DO happen.....!!!!!
