by the time i filled out the naturalization paperwork my taxes were not overdue so, on that question i select the answer NO and i already got the NOA 1 but till my interview it will definetly be overdue because i owe the state

$ 550 and dont have the money since INS sucked all my wallet and also will call the IRS today to ask them if i can make a monthly payments...

I was wondering if that would be a problem for me...?

You'll be fine. Make sure you bring the letter stating you are making monthly payments to the IRS. Also mention it to you IO when you go for your interview. At the time of filing your N-400 you filled it out to the best of your knowledge so don't worry. As far as your wife is concerned, that is up to you. They might ask for her, they might not. I asked my wife to come, just because, I did not want to give them any reason to say, we cannot approve you today. Your call mate.

Its very important that you file your taxes, especially Federal. I haven't heard of them looking at state taxes (I never submitted any state returns ever). Many people owe taxes to the IRS and to the state tax depts. and that's OK. As long as you filed your returns - you are OK. Good Luck

State Taxes are not due before April 1st. You can file your federal tax and file your state tax later on (that is what I am going to do - my taxes are complicated). However, I never heard of USCIS agents wanting to see State Tax returns.

Well, there is a question about whether or not you failed to file any federal, state or local taxes. Even though they do not ask for any evidence the question is there. I am in a little trouble myself actually. I didn't pay my state taxes in one year. I only paid it 4 years after it was due. They asked a lot of questions about it at the naturalization interview. Why and all. They will investigate...

Anybody had an experience with this?

gyenigun you should be fine, just make sure you tell them what is going on.

Well, there is a question about whether or not you failed to file any federal, state or local taxes.

not failed to pay. Before interview, well in advance, you must make payment arrangements to pay what you owe to department of revenue. Either fed or state.

With an arrangement letter from tax authorities you will be just fine. Some explanations however will be necessary.

Right. That is why I said she was fine. Make arrangements and perhaps it is good to tell the officer about it at the interview.
