Will US Federal Income Tax 2008 be important/needed?

I already talked to my husband and he said he'd get it done before the 15th so I can have it on my interview.

We're married for 2 years now and the past year, he had to file his ITR separately because I don't have a SSN. He will be forced to file it again same thing (separately) for ITR 2008 just for the sake of this interview. He said he would just revise his ITR once me and our daughter (born here and already got her US passport last year) are in the US.

There was a link given by someone who replied to this post. It's in the first page I think. They're cases of application that were delayed or application getting complicated because of the 2008 ITR not being there. But for those who will have their interview sooner and don't have their 2008 ITR, I really hope the consulate won't fuss about it.

Let's hope for the best. Good luck to everyone who will be having their interview.

when i had my interview last Friday the 13th (03.13.09) i only handed my fiance's 2008 income tax. some of the girls talked to at the embassy gave 2006 and 2007 income tax but was told to go back and give the income tax of 2008. i think they just need your hubby/fiance's 2008 income tax.

Good lick on your interview! :)

i mean, GOOD LUCK on your interview!

Oh well... anyone can make typographical errors!!! errr...

LOL Thanks a lot Jean!

I wanted to update everyone on how we dealt with the 2008 tax return question.

When my wife went for her K3 interview yesterday she had my W2's for 2008 and the ITR for 2007 and 2006. When the interviewer asked about the 2008 return she told them that I had not filed them yet and that my CPA had put in for an extension so that we would be able to acquire her a SSN once she got stateside and file as married filing jointly on the 2008 ITR since we got married in spring of that year. She passed the interview and got her visa approved (pink slip) so for us this was not an issue.

A couple of details on this, my income level is way above the poverty line and has been for that time period so that may have something to do with it. Also I have worked for the same company for the last 3 years, and in the same industry for 10 years, with a consistent income level each year.

Now I would think the date of the interview will make a difference relative to the April 15 filing date and each case would be a bit different due to your own circumstances. But this is how we handled it so use this to your discretion.

Thanks a lot for the information.

Yeah, I totally agree that we have different cases. For me and my husband, interview is past the deadline for the ITR so we really can't risk not bringing it with me on the interview. My husband however said that he can revise it after we get there in the States.

Congrats btw.

Look at it this way, it's DARN NEAR April 15th here. Either you have FILED, or you have filed for an EXTENSION. I would imagine the USEM is going to ask for one of those proofs. If you can present a valid copy of your extension, as the poster above you did, then you're probably going to be okay.

Even with only 4 months of income, you still need to file. You're not going to owe anything, I would imagine, but the law is the law. :)

My I-134 hasn't been "tested" yet. However, I've send past 3 years of taxes including '08, home mortgage balance statement, 401k balance statement, 3 mos of both bank statements and check stubs, as well as the bank letter and employer letter. IF theres' ONE think that can be learned here on VJ, it is this.....OVERLOAD your proofs!

Moving on w/life

Include the pay stubs and a letter from your employer stating what your current income is. Also include 06 & 07 taxes any assets, co-signer if possible. The Embassy there is known to be the hardest regarding income in the world. Ask me how I know lol.

Thanks all for the advice and tips.

My husband is doing his tax soon and told him to just send me a scanned copy of the document with the latest pay stubs and I'll just print them. Question: will the printed scanned copy be enough or it has to be a photocopy of the original?
