We hear a lot about the politicians in Washington spending "our tax dollars", yet no-one

seems to give a #######. Well they would if it was really *our* dollars they were spending.

Here's my proposal to fix the current system:

Whenever the government spends more dollars than it has collected in tax revenue

(thus running up the national debt), the deficit will be reflected in our personal bank

accounts.

A politician wants to spend 1.5 trillion dollars? No problem! Every man, woman and

child in America gets charged $5,000. You thought you had $10,000 in your savings

account? Bzzzt. Wrong answer. You now have $5,000.

We could also start by charging everyone $15,000 to clear up our national debt.

How's that for transparency? How's that for kicking politicians' arses when they spend

*our* money?

I like your plan.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

That doesn't work. Our tax system is progressive.

Duly noted. The rich can pay a little bit more, according to their tax bracket.
