Birth Certificate

Xuan and I have had an ongoing discussion about her not having a "birth certificate" She was born in 1979 and for some reason she does not have a birth certificate. She was assigned a birthday which is something I just do not understand. Of course we have hired Mr. Nam and Ellis and we have gotten past this issue for the interview I guess. My question is, have any of you had anything like this with the birth certificate? I am concerned that if she does not have a real birth certificate when she gets here and we move on to the next steps we will have a great deal of trouble. I have talked about this before and I am still unsure. Xuan says it is not a problem and it may not be while she is there. Once she is here and we have to move forward I am concerned.

Any thoughts?

There is a recent thread on here in an Adjusting Status forum about the options when a birth cert. can't be obtained/doesn't exist. I think the OP's fiance was born in India and living in the UK. Sorry I can't remember more details to help you search.

Her VN passport will work to confirm a birthdate.

I'd think that you/Xuan are going to need something that serves the purpose of a birth certificate as you work your way through life. That documentation will be easier to get while she in in VN than doing it long distance from the US.

If I recall correctly, there is document that wold have had to provide a document stating that she does not have a birth certificate. You will more than likely need more copies of this when you go to the US.

Jack,

Depending on where you live, she may need her origianl birth certificate translated into English in order to get you marriage certificate.
