Can anyone get approved for citizenship with a pending I-751 application? I filed my I-751 in Feb. 2008 and in march 2009 I filed N-400, my I-751 is still undecided after an interview in march 2009.

you can only be approved for the citizenship after the ROC application is approved and on the 3rd year anniversary of being a PR. Once they approve your ROC, then they will start processing your N-400.

My ROC was approved a little after they got my N-400 and they can start processing the N-400 now.

Mailed N-400 March 6th via priority certified mail and Rec'd 9th (confirmation by USPS)

NOA rec'd: 3/19/2009 (date 3/16/2009, priority 3/9/2009)

Biometrics rec'd 3/26/2009, appt 4/9/2009

IL: 5/22/09

ID: 07/06/2009

Oath: 07/16/2009

SSN updated: 7/16/2009 (not received yet)

Passport rec'd: 8/15/2009(nat. certif not rec'd yet)

Actually ...that is not entirely true...If the ROC is NOT approved by the date of the N400 Interview they will be adjudicated at the same time.

Somehow they managed to send the ten year cards between the time we applied for the N-400, but very close to my wife's interview date. Did you also send in copies of your one year extension notice? Without that, your expired greencard is worthless.

I actually read about cases where the certificate of citizenship was issued before that ten year card came in. That I-751 still seems to be the slowest application to be processed by the USCIS and still is the most stressful period for the applicants. Can wait for USC, but without a current valid greencard, you are as good as dead.

I never knew some certificates came before... USCIS works in weird ways

As with anything else...each adjudicator operates with thier own set of rules...but I know of a few people who got thier I-751 & n400 processed the very same day.

I think we are likely to be in this boat... sending in the N-400 hopefully this August, while we still have a pending I-751.

My question is this: How soon after getting US citizenship are people able to get US Passports?

Thanks!

Maya
