Once she arrives US, I'm pretty sure she wants to explore her new surroundings. So take her out to any restaurant in your area, she will simply enjoy it. So far I love dining in Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Chili's, On the Border, BJ's. Like everyone said once she has settled down and had enough of american food then take her to asian store. Enjoy!

The first few weeks arrving the US, you won't really miss yet filipino foods. Since the Philippines is now much influenced with American foods brought about by all these well known fast food chains, so foods in the US aren't that new for us.It is the QUANTITY that will put you into shock,LOL.

Maybe, as what my fiance' then did, he gave us a treat (just as we got out of the airport  ) to a buffet restaurant, that way we were able to choose and try different foods...though it made him realized next time won't be right to go back there since me and my girls don't eat that much  .

Congratulations!

talking about food again :crying:

it makes me crave for some sinigang :crying:

anyway, when i got here, i was introduced to american foods, which are not not bad, he took me to different fast foods until i noticed that i was 10 more pounds, that's when i told him that we need to start eating healthy, luckily we found an asian store that sells filipino stuff like patis, sinigang mix, mango, etc.

by the way, rice is a necessity in our home :) just cant live without it ;)

Why Do I Love To Cook?

I love to make people happy and amazingly enough nothing can put a big satisfied smile on someones face after a good hearty meal. That's why I love to cook.

Well, as you all know my fiancee was approved recently, and she will be coming to the States soon.

I am assuming that a transition between the Philippines and the United States took a little getting used to.

I know that the food will be different, because when I was there I was introduced to a lot of new food in the Philippines.

I want to make it easy for her, and want to have some foods here that she is used too prior to her arrival, before we will have a chance to do some grocery shopping.

I keep asking her, but she says it will be OK... I guess it will more of a surprise than anything.

So the question is... What foods would you have liked in the U.S. upon your arrival. Let's say for your first week in the United States.

Yes I know: Rice & Fruits

Thanks ladies!

Is there a substantial filipino population up there in oregon? Any filipino food stores? Here in SoCal, we have the largest population of pinoys, so we have Seafood City stores that have all the favorite filipino food items. We also have Jollibee and Chowking restaurants here, hehe.

I love the Asian diet, and think it is so delicious, nutritious and healthy. Of course, I want to keep my pinay slim and sexy, so we will primarily eat an Asian diet. Ive seen some pinays gain 20 Lbs in 6 months of hitting the states. Curse you ronald mcdonald, hehe.

Fresh rice, chicken, fish and veggies can be prepared in so many delicious ways.

Good luck to you and your new woman here!

cheers :star:

I'm very close to SeaFood City here in Northern Cali. But Jolibee and chowking doesn't taste the same at all in PI. I never gained wait since I came here..only untill I get preggy :)

We prefer to stick to an Asian diet in US. Fast Food = Fat Food. Itz best not to get into the western diet too much. The wise ancient saying says, "Eat low, and live high," meaning eat low on the food chain with the least amount of processed foods for long, healthy life.

Cheers! :star:

Well since me and my future husband are conscious enough of what we eat...we actually prefer to just do it at home...whether asian or american cuisine. That way, we can make sure that the ingredients, the taste, and its quatity. Obviously we're practical. But i think it's a healthier way to go. Given that my fiance is good enough in cooking...Although going to restaurants is also one thing we want to do, but we're not really big on that. And i admit i am no good when it comes to cooking, mom does it all, and what i do now is i am actually listing down the recipe and ingredients so that me and my fiance can cook filipino food together, which would be a fun and nice thing to do together. when i first got here, i cant stand the smell of american food. its not because they smell awful but there seem to be something mixed to it (herbs and some other stuffs i have no idea what they were) and when i tasted them, it seemed like there was "something missing"

..but this only lasted for a week, im sure your fiance will get used to it.

i didnt do american fastfood right away though..but my hubby took me to some places which served lighter meals. then moved to introducing me to TGIF, olive gardens, red lobster, then we went to casino resto which serve pastas (my favs)..but of course, as my hubby is also filipino, we take weekly trips to the filipino store (seafood city or manila market - las vegas) for fish, shrimps and crabs. we also pick out some finger snacks like chicharon, boy bawang and sky flakes! lol..

When my wife got here in the US, the #1 thing she asked was rice.

Next, dried fish. Then Halo-Halo. Then different spices that I have never heard of in my life.

And the next thing I realized, she owns the kitchen and the refrigerator. Haha! :bonk:

The refrigerator was packed with veggies that I never know could taste so good!

Better search some Filipino or Asian stores near your place or you could either order some Pinoy stuffs online.

Unfortunately, she gained 5 pounds for the first 3 weeks she got here.

And I gained 8 pounds after we got married.

Blame it on the yummy Pinoy foods she serves on the table.

Good Luck!
