Well, as you all know my fiancee was approved recently, and she will be coming to the States soon.

I am assuming that a transition between the Philippines and the United States took a little getting used to.

I know that the food will be different, because when I was there I was introduced to a lot of new food in the Philippines.

I want to make it easy for her, and want to have some foods here that she is used too prior to her arrival, before we will have a chance to do some grocery shopping.

I keep asking her, but she says it will be OK... I guess it will more of a surprise than anything.

So the question is... What foods would you have liked in the U.S. upon your arrival. Let's say for your first week in the United States.

Yes I know: Rice & Fruits

Thanks ladies!

Try to find some filipino seasonings. Kikkoman is a light soy sauce as compared to philippines soy sauce (dark soy sauce). I dont really use "patis" or fish sauce, but most filipianas use this.

For you, anticipate to eat rice almost everyday. :)

She will surely miss the Filipino food once she gets here but you two can go to any big asian supermarket in your area and you can get almost anything there like dried fish,seasonings/ingredients if she wants to cook, snacks,etc.etc. so not a problem at all.Tell her to spend more time with the family now and of course enjoy the food!

Is there a substantial filipino population up there in oregon? Any filipino food stores? Here in SoCal, we have the largest population of pinoys, so we have Seafood City stores that have all the favorite filipino food items. We also have Jollibee and Chowking restaurants here, hehe.

I love the Asian diet, and think it is so delicious, nutritious and healthy. Of course, I want to keep my pinay slim and sexy, so we will primarily eat an Asian diet. Ive seen some pinays gain 20 Lbs in 6 months of hitting the states. Curse you ronald mcdonald, hehe.

Fresh rice, chicken, fish and veggies can be prepared in so many delicious ways.

Good luck to you and your new woman here!

cheers :star:

My man asked me the same thing, what food i want to eat when i get to Michigan. I told him i wanted to eat Japanese food with him, because that is the dish we did not have when he was here at the Philippines. So we go for sushi and kani. There is a filipino store near our house where my fiance gets his lunch and dinner every single day. It's my fault he got addicted to flip foods. Hahaha. So i know we could get pinoy food anytime we want. :)

Good luck! :star:

We have lot's of Filipino things here in Las Vegas as well (over 60,000 Filipinos in the metro area): Seafood City, Jollibee, Chow King and Red Ribbon to name a few. I actually marinated chicken breasts in adobo seasoning over night, and slow cooked it in the crock pot all day with veggies. Came out excellent!!! I hope my wife will like my cooking when she arrives hehe

Not every city has a Filipino market, but you should be able to find some sort of Asian grocery store in just about any state. Just stick with white rice, fresh fruits, and any type of chicken, pork or seafood should be fine.

When we lived in Thailand together, we usually ate toast in the morning, sometimes corned beef with eggs. I know corned beef is huge in my wifes family, and it's easy to get that just about anywhere in the US. Happy eating and good luck with the reunion :star:

I was fine with American food during my first week in the US.

I suggest you bring her to an Asian supermarket within a week of her arrival so she can start cooking Filipino dishes. If you live near Portland, I suggest:

1) Fubonn Supermarket

850 SE 82nd Avenue Suite #80

Portland, OR 97266

www.fubonn.com

2) Uwajimaya

10500 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale HWY

Beaverton, OR 97005

www.uwajimaya.com

Reminder: dried fish/squid should be cooked outside the house if you don't want your house to stink!!!

Hi Kevin,

This is Ira, the one who befriended your Maria during our visa interview :). She was next to me after my turn and thank God, we had the same consul officer who interviewed us, who granted our fervent prayer: to be finally with our loved one in the US! Praise God! We were both floating in relief and happiness at that time :). I was there also at the hotel when she announced to you the good news :).

Don't worry about Mar but it's really sweet of you to be considerate. She will be fine. We have many non-Filipino foods here, thanks to fastfood chains around :). It won't be a big deal as she may easily adapt to the new things around there. If she wants to eat something Pinoy, she can always go to asian groceries which carry Filipino stuff. For sure, there will be one or two in your area, at least. It would be fun to both of you cooking or preparing Filipino dishes together :).

I'm happy to both of you, especially to Mar. I just wish that one day, you will bring her to California, say to Los Angeles. We are not that far from there as we will be settling in Glendale.

God bless to both of you!!! Cheers! :)
