2009_Borah_Banner.jpg

Today the Borah Symposium kicks off with the film Triage tonight at 7 pm at our local theater The Kenworthy.

This is the Symposium I've been co-chairing all semester and I'm so glad it's finally here!

I still have more editing to do to finish my news package so I'm going to the editing bay early tomorrow to hopefully finish that up. I've been doing this in-depth story on the dual role of parents who are also students and how the diversity of the student populations are changing to non-traditional students. Teachers are no longer teaching the same types of students they were once teaching. They are now teaching a growing population of non-traditional students and they need to look at ways to meet those students needs.

52 more days until Egypt! I started packing my kitchen tonight and got five boxes done! Ha ha for procrastination of homework! Did somebody say it was the weekend? What weekend!

It looks like it's going to be a gloomy day here. Yesterday, we all went rollerskating, it felt like i was re-living my teenage years...lol we all had so much fun but i think i was the other kids' "target" to take a dive in front of me and try to make me fall but what they didn't know that I used to be the captain of the girls hockey team and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't make me wipe out...in fact it backfired on them, i had to pull out my old tricks  , they eventually gave up...lol

Happy Sunday!!

Question for you all --- Yesterday, as my husband and I were discussing it had been one year since his arrival in the US, he admitted to having had more homesickness than he told me about, especially around Xmas time.

He is conflicted with us having open communication vs sharing his sadness which might/will bring me down as well. I appreciation that he is trying to protect me, but I'd like to be able to be more supportive when he is down. Have any of you seen or felt this?

Yes. Men are generally not willing to openly show a lot of emotion. He may feel it makes him look less 'manly'. It's a guy thing. Personally, I blame the mother's.

Hey all! Happy Sunday! I hope you all are doing great! It's a beautiful day here...sunny and cool and lovely!!!! We have had 3 days of pouring rain, thunderstorms, tornadoes and everything else imaginable.

Anita, honey, it is hard. My husband's family is in Argentina, which I always say is at the bottom of the world - LITERALLY!! It is so hard on him at times because he feels so far from them. Fortunately, he can talk to his family all the time for only 2 cents a minute, but sometimes it kills him that he can't be there for his mother if she needs anything. Encourage him to show you how he feels, tell you and share his emotions...let him know that you're a big girl and that you can take it, but that you can't do anything for him if he doesn't tell you what is going on. I always told my husband that I am not a mind reader and that if he acts like everything is fine, I'll believe it is fine - he needs to share with me. When we came to that point of view it really opened things up for us. I wish you all the best - these times are hard and so often we forget that our foreign spouses made the ultimate sacrifice to be with us here.

God bless you and your husband. (F)
