read the instructions of the I-864 to see the list of documents that can be sent to support the affidavit.

From what you listed in your post, a transcript of your 2008 tax return should be sent. If your income does not meet the requirements then you must send proof that your co-sponsor is a USC (passport).

As what I understand, your principal sponsor didn't meet 125% of the poverty line so you have joint sponsor, right? As what was indicated in the letter, the joint sponsor is self-employed and (maybe) they were not satisfied with supporting documents that you submitted with the I-864 of the joint sponsor, so you needed to submit the following:

1. Tax Transcript -- you can get this by calling 1-800-829-1040 for FREE through mail which would take only couple of days (though they'd tell you for a few weeks) or talk to a representative and have them fax the transcript to you if you have a fax machine and you can get it right away. I suggest that you get the last 3 years' tax transcripts.

2. An evidence that your joint sponsor is a US Citizen (ie. US passport, photocopy of Driver's License, Birth Certificate) -- though i'm not too sure about this but that is what I understand from your post. Or you may need to submit another I-864 of the joint sponsor together with the documents that i mentioned.

Good luck!
