Hi guys, this is our first time filing tax's and its really confusing. I moved here on a K1 from the UK where i worked part-time and earned very little whilst in college full time. I have been here less than 6 months and we would like to fill married jointly. I know how much i made last year in the UK but i dont have any documentation to proof that. I dont know how much i paid in taxs either. I read that foriegn income is excempt to a certain extent and as i made very little im sure it would be. Any advice would be appreciated. Do i need to include my foreign income, if so what do i need to show for proof. I dont have my P45 or anything but i am trying to get my last pay stub from work.

Thanks Gavin

no worries ... it always seems a little undaunting when you're first getting started!

first have a look at: Tax Information

as for your foreign earned income ... you may be required to file Form 2555 or Form 2555EZ. here are the instructions.

Thanks for taking the time to reply gimyigrl, i have studied your tax information thread for a few days now, its been more than helpful. I'm using TurboTax to help complete the forms and i did manage to input the foreign earned income in the right place but as for supporting evidence im not sure what i need to provide from my home country.

Sorry guys, i still dont understand this. From what i've been reading i understand that i will be exempt from paying tax's on my foreign earned income. It was below $10,000 total. Please correct me if im wrong.

Do i even need to include this on the tax return?
