Time Spent Together Before Deciding to Get Married?

We met at work while we were both living in London. We knew each other for a year before we started dating. Then we started actually dating and we hit it off almost immediately. We knew it was going to be 'the one' after only a week or so. But since we were both living in the same countries, there was no reason to rush into anything just to be together. We lived together in London for about a year and a half, then in Italy together for 6 months, and then I was in the US for 4 months by myself and he was here in Brazil (from Sept - Jan) and I moved here to São Paulo in January and we're getting married next month. He proposed to me while we were living in Italy.

My husband wanted to marry me even before we became "gf/bf" LOL too bad i was engaged with another man back then. Ed and I met August 2006...started dating March 2007...we originally plan his first visit here to meet me and my family sometime in March of 2008 but along the waiting time he popped the question "will you marry me" on christmas of '07...and so YES! In just 3 months preparation we finally got married. Everything happened too fast...no regrets! I may not have spent much time with him in person before we actually get married but we certainly know each other better than anyone else. I think talking to him online everyday makes it easier for me to open up since I am a shy type person...but very talkative online. For me when I talk to him online I don't feel the pressure of trying to impress him or anything. We've seen each other eating on cam, while I like to eat with my hand, he likes to share his fart to me, i can hear him snore over the cam when we sleep at night...ive seen many things about him that could be a turn-off for the girls...but i still find myself head over heels in love with him. I know there is more to discover when we actually live together. YES I married my husband the first time we've met...and we are the dorkiest couple ever! LOL :jest:

I don't believe that long engagement is guarantee for a successful marriage. Marriage is a lifetime learning about each others strength and weaknesses. ;)

6 weeks together physically.

But probably thousands of hours on the phone. 5 hours a day on week days and 14-15 hours on the weekends.

We'd decided to get married after being in each other's presence for a scant two weeks. As with many people,we spent countless hours on the internet and phone getting to know each other (and my college transcripts definitely reflect that fact!). We started dating officially on my first (three day) visit there in March of 2005. During my second (ten day) visit in May of 2005, we daydreamed about it. He bought the ring in June, before I moved in with him in the UK, but he didn't propose until October, when we'd been "living" together for four months.

My sister and dad went to visit Laos in November. Their intention was to hook me up with this girl that my dad met on his first couple of visit but from the pictures that he took and showed me, I wasn't impressed. I agreed to go but on the conditioned that it would just be to visit and not make any decisions to act on anything. I didn't want to marry just anyone.

We left on Saturday and got there on Monday. Tuesday, the mom asked me if I was interested in marrying her daughter. I didn't want to make such a hasty decision but at the same time, I didn't want to waste the trip. By Friday of that week, we were engaged. We didn't spend much time together because it was the first trip for my sister as well. So anywhere we went, it was a group trip. I didn't sleep with her in her room. We never slept together. The following Friday we came back to the US. So less than 2 weeks. And not really together as a couple either.

I've just been approved last week and my Noa2 is on its way but next Friday i'll be on a plane to go see her for 3 weeks. We'll have to make up for lost time. Despite not having the chance to spend too much time with her and we talked nearly everyday on the phone after I came back, I still have a very good feeling about her. Our country has a very strong custom and meetings like ours isn't uncommon.

Hi Everyone,

This is such a fascinating site. From the looks of people's signatures, it seems a lot of folks took the plunge to get married quite quickly after meeting their now fiance(e). Just out of curiosity, I was just wondering how much time you physically spent with your now fiance(e) before deciding to spend everyday for the rest of your lives together.

Every situation is different. If you feel like you are "plunging" then "you" are probably not ready. There's no "time formula" for a successful marriage. Use your own best judgment based on your own circumstances.

Please don't refer to others as "plunging" based on information in a timeline. It tells you nothing about their relationship or decision making process and certainly nothing about their chances for a happy life and marriage.

For the record, our plan was to marry the next morning after my arrival in China but paperwork issues delayed things by a day. One of my best friends recently divorced after a 5 year marriage. They courted locally for 4 years, living together three of those years. Take your best shot.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

The OP just "asked" a "simple", " harmless" "question". "Relax".

NOA 2. Really?
