I want to finish my student teaching in Germany. In NRW student teaching lasts 24 months. 4 months are over, one more to go. My visajourney hasn't quite started yet.

I wanted to say not to wait until your student teaching is over before starting the K1. Remember it takes anywhere from 3 - 12 months to go through the entire process and get the visa. You have 6 months after receiving the visa until it expires. We wanted to wait until my husband finished graduate school, so we filed about 12 months before he was done. We filed in July, his interview was in April (which we had extended because of grad school) and then he flew here last July, but he could have waited till October to use the visa.

If you wait 20 months, then you'll add another potential year onto your wait time!

I know not to wait too long. We figured we will start the process July 2010. That should give us enough time, 9 months. But thank you for your post!

Hi!

Glad to see there is such an active German-American community on here. I can already tell that I'll need some company along this journey!

I'm excited!

I'm the German female beneficiary. My fiance lives in Atlanta right now. We set up an apartment a few months ago and I cannot wait to come home, hopefully some time in the middle of next year, ey?

Hallo an alle! :star:

Hi, another German-American couple here. Still waiting for our NOA2. Marina says one good thing about the delay in our approval is that she won't arrive in the middle of winter and have a freezing cold wedding here in Iowa.

We were approved (NOA2) on 12/24/09.

What can we expect for processing times on the rest of the K1 journey?

Welcome! Krautlaus, looks like you'll be in our area of the country. There's quite a group of VJers in the Seattle area and we like to get together a couple times a year.

Iowaseabee, check out the K! guides for some really great lists. Also, I used the NOLO Fiance and Marriage Visa book. We're about to remove conditions and we're using that book again.

Good luck!

I am the US Fiancee; he is in Germany (Stuttgart) waiting and waiting for our NOA2.

In the meantime, we are talking about moving his belongings over in a container.

Does anyone have experience with this situation?

Is it allowed to ship a container when you have the K-1 visa?

Or do you have to be married first?

Thanks all (and I wish I understood German so I could read more of these threads!)

Hey - my husband is from Iowa too. We now live in Wisconsin and commute into the Twin Cities for work everyday! I came on a K1 in January 2006. Congrats on the NOA 2, do you have an interview date yet?

Nice to see so many fellow Krauties in the process.

LauraJ - if I remember correctly you'll need a visa number for the import of the container. As soon as the visa is issued you'll be able to do the paperwork.

Conditional Permanent Resident since September 20, 2006

Conditions removed February 23, 2009

provided I get my own way in the end!

It is also my understanding that you need the visa to be able to ship the container. We are in the same situation.
