O.k., I know there is a German thread, but it seems to be mostly a chat room for people way beyond the K-1 application (nothing against that, of course!). I'd like to start a thread for German-American couples who are still apart... How many are we here? What's your story?

I am the beneficiary, and I met my fiancé while I was on a student visa in the US. We dated for over a year before I left. Now I'm back in Germany, waiting for the K-1...

Anyhow, it would be fun to hear from you, and I hope everyone gets through this grueling process quickly.

Yeah, I just got my interview done and I'm now waiting to receive my visa/passport.

I met my awesome fiancée in an online game (Guild Wars) where we played together for a long time (including long talks on VoIP tools) and then we visited each other a few times. Now I'm really looking forward to move in with Aubrey and to marry her.

Being apart is so hard and I don't even want to imagine how it would be without our webcams and our daily talks.

Anyways, you can always drop by in the German thread if you want or if you have questions. You can also send me a pm if there is something you need to know or can't figure out on your own. I'm sure there are other people that are more than willing to help in case of any questions. I sure got quite some help and moral support myself from the many nice people here.

@Eveline: You got my nickname almost right there :D Don't worry, no one can memorize it correctly right away usually, lol. The story behind it is pretty simple though. When you go to any online forum or game, it happens way too often that the desired account name is already in use by another person, so I figured at some point I just should type in some random letters. By now, I use this nickname almost everywhere I sign up. It really grew on me and I like having a random nickname like that. It is somewhat unique between all those Razor2635, Viper00001 or 1337h4Xx0r666 people. :P

I was a K1'ler a few months ago. We filed in June 2008 after dating for 8 months, got approved Jan 2009, Visa in hand and US entry end of February 2009. We have been married for not yet one month. I can't tell you how happy we are. of course, it is not always easy to integrate- sometimes I notice myself thinking how some of the things are really strange here and that even though I have been living in the US before. I know I will miss my home- Germany- in the long run. But I also know that I wouldn't be happy without the greatest man of all in Germany.

We just moved into our new and first mutual apartment this past week

Wish all of you much strengths during the K1. For us, it was a torture. We waited more than 6 months having placed our lives on hold. When NOA 2 finally came, we were shocked and I was crying for an hour in disbelief. For almost all of us this wait is just a matter of time. So enjoy the time left in Germany with your family. Because these times might not be coming back soon enough.

I have a similar story!

I was an exchange student at University of West Georgia. I met my bf, there, and we had 10 months together. That was about 2.75 years ago.We have had a LDR for 2 years now with 20 more months to go till we can file the K1.

So, I am only here to be happy if other people can go and be with their bfs for good...

I am from Moers, hich is blose to Düseldorf, too

May I ask why you have 20 more months to go before you can file? Even a J visa-related home residency requirement should be over by now... Just curious.
