Ok..here is the deal...I sent in all the documents including my original birth certificate and marriage certificate to NVC. This morning I get a checklist stating that they need my original birth ceritificate and marriage certificate. What do I do? Did they lose it? I would have to go back to my country in order to make new originals, I am sure they r not going to make another one without my presence! I am so so so stressed....

Any help would be much appreciated!

1.) Contact your U.S. Senator or Representative. They will have someone specifically assigned to immigration issues in their state offices--don't call the Washington offices; from personal experience, they'll just assign you to the Senator's or Representative's local reps. OR...

2) Reply to the address where the requested information was supposed to go explaining that you have already submitted the requested documents.

3) A couple of questions for you: You did send the documents via certified mail, return receipt requested, right? You have the receipt for when they signed for the documents, correct? If you did not do this, they might not have ever received them.

4) Our I-130 was lost at the Nebraska Service Center. Our Senator's local representative who has an office where we live, contacted CIS via email and, at his urging, CIS searced and found the documents. So, the first suggestion may be the quickest.

Good luck and take care!

Just answer the RFE - send in the requested paperwork.

You did make copies of your package before you sent it in, didn't you?

The instructions say you only need to send in copies of the documents, they have the right to request originals if they want.

If you didn't make copies, then you will need to obtain new copies.

Even if USCIS misplaced your originals, the burden is on you to prove your case. Copies, in this case, would show this.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Thanx a lot jsassman! I did send the documents through express mail and they did recieve it. The automatated system even said they had recieved the documents. I am going to wait till monday, talk to someone and findout whats going on. If I don't get it figured out by midday monday I am going to take your advise and call the Senator. How difficult is it to get a hold of someone and explaining the situation?

Thanx a lot

Thanx Dani,

I had sent my originals with DS230 not I130. However, I found out that they are looking for my mom and dad's birth and marriage certificate, not mine. I had sent in the certified copies since they had told me that was good enough but I guess it is not. Good luck with the process!
