What does 'touched' mean? On member's profiles or timelines there is NOA1 or NOA2 and then 'touched'. What does that mean?

I've been wanting to ask that for ages -- now that we're finally in the system will I get 'touched' too?

Everytime your file moves within USCIS it is scanned. Everytime it is scanned people consider it a touch (ie if you have signed up on the USCIS website to view the status of your case, it will update as - last update such and such a date). Once you get your NOA2 your file moves to NVC and you can no longer track it online.

From a former USCIS adjudicator:

The adjudicator began working it (touch), went to lunch (touch), came back from lunch (touch) and finished reviewing it and sent it off to be processed (touch). Its touched when it goes back into the queue and etc...

Keep in mind every time a file changes hands whether its signed out to an Adjudicator or some staff person, its gets "wanded" into the system so they can track who specifically has the file. Each file has a scannable bar code. Sometimes you'd be working a file that has someone else working another component of the file or one of the family members. We would always try to keep family members together and approve them at the same time

Sounds kinda perverted huh? lol! :)

During the course of your file being with them, it will sit in numerous piles and desks.... whenever it is handed off from one desk or another, or someone reviews it or handles your file in any way (by updating their system etc...), that is considered 'touched' where your file has been looked at, moved, reviewed etc.... sometimes you may never show a 'touched' during the course of your application, other times, as they shift duties internally, your file could be touched 100x!

Some people like to put hope on that or follow it, as they feel like they are getting progress, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on that, as I would normal time lines... like if it's been 5 months and you've heard nothing.. then it may warrant trying to follow up.

Hope that helps, as reading it over, it seems as cleqar as mud! HAHA!

It means that their coffee probably spilled on their desk and they had to move your file to the floor while they cleaned it up. :P

AHHH AHAHHA! OMG THAT IS SOOOOOOOOOO FUNNY IF YOU WERE HERE I'D SMACK YA!!!!! OMG< I LAUGHED SO FREAKING HARD!!!!

During the course of your interaction with them , they will lay your file on their desk . And you will be handed off , to as many people as they can at the time . And if your lucky 9 months later you will find out your approved . haha
