Affidavit of support

I have read many topics on this subject but I wanted specific advice for my situation if anyone can provide assistance.

I am currently out of the military and applying for a K-1 Visa with my fiancee from Japan. I do not meet the minimum poverty guidelines right now by $1000 or so with my current job. But I do receive disability for an injury I received while serving. It amounts to about $6000 a year. If I include bank statements, a letter from my company (stating my position, salary and other job information) and my initial letter stating how much I am paid per month from the government for my disability, will this be enough to satisfy the affidavit of support? I have read the instructions, but with me not meeting the poverty guidelines based on my job income alone I worry.

Another option is that I use a co-sponsor, and he far exceeds the poverty guidelines.. Is there any doubt they would refuse me based on my income and paperwork, or to be safe should I just use a co-sponsor to submit an affidavit or support with me?

Thank you. I appreciate any feedback anyone can provide.

The affidavit of support is not just based on the income alone, it is based on how much you have which is a total of your income, assets, etc. so if you're receiving money from the government for ur disability and with that you can past the poverty line, then i dont see any problem at all.

If your job + disability together exceeds the guidelines you are good to go! The disability IS income, it is acceptable income provided you have all the documentation and check stubs. There is no requirement in the guidelines for a "job", a job is one means of meeting the guidelines. There is no requirement for ONE job. ALL documentable forms of income count (there is some debate over whether "unemployment" counts as it is not permanent) The paperwork you propose to submit is exactly correct. I have no doubt they would accept this as adequate income. On the I-134, answer that your current annual income is XXXXX by combining the sum of your job and your disability. Attach a sheet explaining the combined income and your disability documentation.

If you wish to also include a bank letter, by all means do so. I do not think it will be necessary, but it is easy and virtually free, so why not?

Good luck.
