Dude, just CANCEL the account

I just had to deal with this same issue today!!!! I cancelled my account about 6 days ago, the guy gave me a hard time, but finally cancelled it. Then I get a letter yesterday saying thank you for agreeing to continue your account with AOL......Can you believe this???? I wrote them a very long letter, I work for law firm that handles this kind of thing. They better cancel it today or I will sue the heck out of them because what they are doing is illegal.

Geez... I'm glad I never had AOL. It sounds like this is part of their Standard Opereating Procedures. I'm surprised this hasn't become more public?!

Not defending this rep but if you ever worked in a call center it is hell. You have to try to make at least 3 saves at most places. AOL seems a lot tougher with the save requirements.

I did not think the phone rep was rude at all, he was just trying to save the account.

AOL sucks big time... I worked for a company here in India and handled tech calls for maybe 2 weeks at most. You are set unrealistic targets; those targets normally mean that you go in on your day off to meet them. I refused to do that... and left that place ASAP. Some people work a minimum of 15 hours a day... AOL is a crappy ISP and it is an even worse employer.

Verizon Wireless did the same thing to me. Took me two days, trips to two stores, and speaking to two different people in person and four on the phone to cancel my account.

First person I spoke to on the phone told me to go to the store. Person at the frist store--which I'd found on their website--said it wasn't a real store, they just accepted the bills. Person at the second store told me she couldn't help me because I'd opened my account on the East Coast and this was on the West Coast. First person I spoke to on the phone on the second day was obviously the person whose job it was to convince me not to cancel. Second person was supposedly in the cancellation department but put me on hold and refused to help me anymore after he asked me whether I wanted to transfer my account to someone else and I told him there was no one I hated that much. I'd been on the phone about 45 minutes at that point. Third person was a supervisor and actually cancelled my account. Took about an hour.

Best $350 I ever spent. Seriously.

Tell me about it, had AOL for 4 years and shaking them off was extremely difficult...all the offers....more broadband more speed....more packages, free months.....My dad spent 10 mins on the phone with them replying no to every one of them. Our reason was we wanted to go to Yahoo and we got into a "year" contract an obviously didnt want to pay for aol AND yahoo. But he kept on with his offers.... in the end my dad said it one last time and hung it, they cancelled the account a week later

I got the run-around from Nextel! Ended up just switching companies. Thought it was a done deal, until about two months after they started asking for money. I sent them a scathing letter saying they were the ones that broke the contract with me, and I wasn't going to pay them anything. That's the last I heard from them!
