omg lol Well he should've asked the guy's full name and then asked to talk to his supervisor. I know it's his job to avoid clients to cancel the account, but it has a limit, the client always comes first.

I know all too well, it took me about 3 phonecalls and 5 mins of talking to this rep about, "what part of cancel my account don't you understand?" before the 3 different smoes that they threw at me would finally do as I asked. Ridiculous!

Cancelling AOL is always a pain. My sister had me make the call for her, a few yrs ago, that aol guy was an a$$.

This JUST happened to me, only MINE was WORSE, I was on the phone for 45 minutes and I am STILL not sure I got it cancelled, I finally hung up on him and told him to send a confirmation email, but have yet to receive it. In fact, when I first read the title, I though perhaps it was MY call!!! lol This was nite before last, I have called 3 times this month trying to cancel!!!

I had it happen to me. The AOL guy refused to cancel my account. Finally, I said, My name is (X). Today is (X). I am requesting that my account be canceled. If it is not cancelled, I will contact the Better Business Bureau."

Then I hung up. It was cancelled.

Many years ago, when there were not so many providers around (and this was not in the US anyway), I tried out the "30 days free" deal with AOL. After about 10 days I was fed up with the wave of spam and general nastiness ending up in my inbox, so I did not use AOL any longer. At the end of the 30 days I phoned them up, just to make sure that the "free" account would really be closed down.

I was quite amazed to learn that no, it would not close down automatically, but turn into a real account I would be charged for AND that I would not be able to cancel over the phone. Right, I said, I'll send you an email. No, was the answer, you can not cancel by email.

It turned out that they only accepted snail mail letters cancelling, and anyway, the AOL person informed me with a voice full of nasty glee, your 30 days are up by midnight and then the clock starts ticking for your account and we will bill you.

I wrote the cancellation letter the same night and stated in no uncertain words my opinion about this unheard off f.....g around with people. I also made sure that they understood my estimate of their "policy" in not offering any protection against spam and assorted nastiness (remember, this all happened in the "good old days" of email and Internet) and suggested that if ever even one bill would turn up I would take this matter to the local office of customer protection (different name, but that is what they do) PLUS make sure that a lot of other very unsatisfied users of the "free trial scam" would do the same.

That letter went into the mail box the very next morning. And guess what - I never heard from them again and not one single bill arrived.

AOL spells "evil". You have to kick them in the butt and keep kicking even when they don't scream any longer.
