My dad sent me this today. I haven't listened to the whole thing as each episode is over an hour long! I've been listening as I have been cleaning the house!

I thought that I would go ahead and post this here. The episode that I have linked to is called Porcaria! I think this will be more interesting for Americans who are dating people in Brazil. If you have a lot of time on your hands to listen, it is quite interesting. Again, it's really long though, but if you are interested on learning a bit about how Americans might view everyday life in Brazil, then you should take a listen.

The guys talking are super informal and occationally go off on their own rants about nothingness...but it's entertaining enough!

But as a disclaimer....I DO NOT agree with everything that this guy has said...some, yes...but a lot of it I do not agree with!

Enjoy! http://tvindy.typepad.com/brazilianisms/

Ok, I have to say, the american guy is awful. He keeps talking about things that taste bad in Brasil when IMO and even in the opinion of americans and my husband and all that our food tastes so much better!

He said requeijão tastes like vaseline but omg, the cheeses in US are horrible!

He said negresco tastes like bad chocolate, it tastes different than oreo, it's not made to be the same thing, but as far as quality goes it's the same #######. It's a cheap cookie.

He said he never tasted good bread in Brasil. OMG, here I got the market and I can't find any bread that is fresh and yummy like the ones I had back home, it's all pre-packaged breads!

I agree! That's why I made sure that I had the disclaimer at the bottom saying that I did not agree with most of what he said! I still haven't listened to the whole thing. When I finished cleaning I put it on pause and haven't gone back yet.

I'm with you on the whole bread thing. The bread here is SO much better than the bread in the US IMO. Seriously, I have no idea where he is coming with that. And I can't taste a difference at all in the chocolate...

I'm also a big fan of requeijão (although, I think he is right in that some of the really really really really cheap requeijão can be kinda nasty). But the good stuff isn't that expensive either! The Extra brand tastes fine to me! I don't think it tastes anything like vasaline -not that I would know what vasaline tastes like.

And yes, I agree...they are pretty boring at times. My dad is a huge fan of NPR (I bet that's where he originally heard this). But between the boringness, I thought there were some interesting comments in there. I want to eventually listen to the rest and will update here as I go on what I agree with ;)

i'm not much into requeijao, i prefer catupiry first followed by american cream cheese.

negresco is way better than oreo.

we have amazing variety of bread in brazil, states can't compete with it.

i guess he probably only tried a couple bread he didnt like.

the opinion of 1 american says nothing, because people have different tastes.

i really miss fresh baked bread, having bakeries in every corner and being able to choose whatever bread i want. home made potato bread. i would rarely buy packaged bread in brazil.

Exactly, he talks like he's speaking for the entire culture, which is what I didn't like. Btw, the podcast was about "porcaria" so he was saying our cheese, our bread, our chocolate, was porcaria.

Yeah, this guy is crazy. Sorry for bringing his stupidity to you all as well!

He says that you can't rinse your mouth out with water from the tap. And that you can't raise your plate off with water from the tap and then use the plate again and that it is very rare for a house to have hot water.

I'm not sure where he lives...but this is not the case here in São Paulo. We can drink the water here. I don't really like the way it tastes...but we can drink it!! And we also have hot water. -Not in the kitchen, but who cares!

He also complains about the lack of garbage disposals...but that's just getting a little picky!

He complains about the lack of dryers as well...and okay, I do agree with this one! ;) I don't mind using a clothes line usually, but I really like having my jeans dried with a dryer and the lent rack on a dryer is kinda helpful!

And I feel bad for his Brazilian friend on the podcast too (the Brazilian friend with an amazing accent and super great English, I must say!). The American guy seems to get on to him a lot and disagree with what he says. If he wants to talk by himself, then he shouldn't have invited his friend.

Anyway...pausing it again!

He did sound very stuck up to me, and his friend seemed rather uncomfortable and appeared to find most of what the guy was saying was BS, which would be for most brazilians. For us in Brasil you can't eat much worse than americans.

In my hometown every middle class house had hot water including the kitchen faucets. Tap water is treated, but tastes a bit bad, so everyone uses a filter anyway, but just for drinking water, cooking water that will be boiled, who cares, and water to rinse off plates? Is he nuts?

Not every american house has garbage disposal either. One of my friends in Brasil had it, never used it.

Dryer is not as common as in US, I think with the amount of sun we have in the majority of the country people don't feel the need for it, it's superfluous. I had a dryer at home, we used it maybe 3 times in an entire year, for that "I wanna wear that tonight" emergency drying. It's nice to have one, yes, but at the same time not using one saves lots of energy.

Poor thing....

I will take Brazilian food over American food anytime..... I do not like American food... the food cooked at home is Brazilian. Ken sometimes want something American, he cooks it and eats.. but he loves Brazilian food as well.

He has to understand that is why each country on the planet is different. He is complaining about the Cheddar cheese in Brazil, well... Cheddar is not Brazilian to begin with.... try a good piece of Queijo Minas, Queijo Prato and try to have one made here in the USA... 'nuff said....and we don't have fake cheese in Brazil like they do here

whatever.. not even worth anymore of my time... he is the PORCARIA

That is classic. I about died laughing! About dryers, yeah, you don't need em but as much as it rains in SP? It would be nice to have 'em. Brazilian food is better, fresh food is gonna beat frozen every time.

I agree. I didn't even finish listening to the whole podcast. Maybe we caught him on a bad topic. I wonder if the others are any better. Based on this one, I will guess no...but you never know.
