485 Appointment letter not received-now DENIED! Help!

We went through the whole 601 process, had our biometrics, recieved EAD in December. Now, I get home today to receive a letter -saying that we are denied on our 485 because we didn't come to our appointment in January. We were a no-show. But we never received any type of letter or anything. I don't even have a receipt number to check our status. What do I do now?

i would make an infopass appointment asap and explain the situation that they reopen the case

and are u sure ur case is at the CSC??normaly the california center do not scheduled interviews...

i would call usci and make an appointment

some more details would help....when did you file the I485? what service center/local office are you at? did you call, to find out why you hadn't received the receipt notice, at least?

We went to the Portland Office for the Biometrics, but when I log in to do the infopass, it says I need to go to Seattle...I don't know why. I haven't talked to anyone yet, I got home too late to talk to anyone today. I'm freaking out a little.

The Infopass would be scheduled for an office that is 'relatively' close to so that you could conceivably attend. I think given your situation, you should not quibble about what office you're being sent to. You need some assistance. Given that your case has been denied, you may want to look into the process of filing a motion(I-290B) to re-open/reconsider the denial.

I belive the receipt number to check our status is in the letter they sent you for your BIO appointment too ...is it showing online? or you just didn't know how to look it up?

Ah! Thank you! I didn't realize that was the same number. So, I logged in to check the status on USCIS, and they said the post office returned the appointment notice and said it was undeliverable. The only thing I can think of as to why that would be is because we had a HUGE snow/ice storm during that time and the mail service was interupted. Great.

So, I just talked to the customer service people at USCIS and he said just to simply write a letter explaining what happened and send it in. He said making an infopass appointment might be a good idea, but I don't have to do that. Hmm. How vague.

If INFOPASS is an option for you - not too far away, I'd write the letter of explanation and hand it in at infopass (do get some kind of receipt). Definitely try to have them look into your case without having to file motion to reopen and paying more money. Try getting the info/confirmation from post office of service interruption so you have some evidence why you never received the letter.

The USCIS Customer service line is famous for dishing out vague, outdated, and a lot of times down-right incorrect information. That's why some refer to it as the Customer Mis-Information Line.

Best advice...DO NOT LISTEN TO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Make an infopass appointment ASAP, even if you have to drive to an office location in another town. Prepare the letter they suggested but do not send it...take it with you to the INFOPASS. See what you can do to reverse the denial without having to file the motion to reopen petition. If nothing can be done, they'll tell you that at the infopass.
