I get the constitutional arguments, but this "freedom to bear arms" seems pretty double-edged, as all people can do is make excuses for every rampage shooting, or gang war that takes place and place the emphasis on any and everything except the abundance and broad availability of firearms.

There's that old cliche about an armed society being a polite society - IMO just romantic nonsense, and there's nothing true about it at all.

Yawn.

Hey stop that... you're making me yawn too!

Double yawn.

Why do some nutjobs prove to be such consistent defenders of excessive gun power at home? Is it yet another compensation issue they have?

You may have stumbled onto something!!!

You just never know when a small war will break out and all these gun owners will get to spring into action. After all, there are a lot countries that would rather invade us with their highly trained military, rather than lob a nuke or fly some commercial aircraft into populated areas.

Well of course!

There is yet another thing I just don't seem to understand with some of these 'advocates.'

If they are so fearful of their government coming to take their arsenal away, mind you, in some cases a government they themselves served as members of the nation's armed forces, then isn't that in a way like they themselves sticking it to themselves? Condemning that which they uphold to defend? Weird.

Its an all or nothing thing with some of these guys. They don't realize their handguns are not the issue here.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

we're not making excuses for criminal behaviour. we are replying that crime should be dealt with by incarcerating or executing criminals, and that the tools they choose are incidental.

as for the question of the armed society being polite, well, there are some populations on this little rock that are never gonna be polite. in that case, it's a problem with the "population".

we see a difference between this government and the constitution. we served this nation out of respect for it's constitutional structure, realising that men in opsitions of power are corruptible, some more than others. we condemn deviation from constitutional structure, as any thinking man will.

it is an "all or nothing" situation, friends. just ask the 30 million chinese killed under Mao for not agreeing with his communist policies, or the 18 million killed under Stalin for political dissidence. oh, that's right. they lie in silence.

And what... you're expecting the US to turn to communism anytime soon?

####### does China and USSR have to do with keeping guns in the homes of US citizens?

You need to reel it back in, or get some fresh air, because you seem to be suffering from a lack of oxygen.

This is the United States of America. Not China, not the USSR.

While condemning any deviation from absolutist constitutionality, try also condemning the stupidity of misinterpreting it and the idiocy of being an idiot as well.

let's keep it that way.

So then are you expecting the need to overthrow our government? That our government will some how turn into the types you refered too? Does the ballot box not serve that purpose for you? Maybe you're afraid that our military will go rouge and there will be a coup, and you can take up arms and go put them in their place?

If it comes to it, yes. That's why there is a right to keep and bear arms.

It would seem there are a lot of people around here who played "Army" and "Soldier" a little too much growing up! This obsession with guns is just not healthy!!!
