Hello all,

My husband already got PCC from both local passport office and police office in last 2-3 weeks. As you can note from my timeline, we're expecting package IV bill. So we thought it would be ok to get PCC w/o waiting for the DS-230 checklist or interview letter.

However, after talking to a friend who went through this process last year, she mentioned we don't need it for DS-230. We should only get it after interview letter. Now, this seems doubtful to me after reading all the posts from this forum and also considering the fact that this friend hired lawyer to do the work. But instead of doubting her knowledge of the process, I wanted to hear from you guys if there is such thing as 'Too early" for PCC.

I don't have the PCC in hand so I don't know if they expire or not. All the ppl who are from India may know this. I don't think they expire in a month or two though.

Thank you for help!!!! Good luck to all.

Champi - You are fine, this is roughly the same place in my timeline that my wife got her PCCs. You don't have anything to worry about.

NVC does require the Passport and Local PCCs for your case file to be complete, they will not schedule your interview until you send them the PCCs.

Just as a note, NVC will accepts color scans and printouts of the PCCs, you can have your husband email them to you, and then take the originals at the time of the interview.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks queuedup....bit relieved :) My husband has already sent the things to me. I should be getting both by Saturday or Monday at the latest. I really want to pay bill and send things.... I am getting one scare everyday and I get all worked up about it...

We may get RFE though... not sure yet... My husband lived his entire childhood to college life in Gujarat. He has been in Bangalore only till 05. According to the requirements, we need to get PCC from every place where we've lived more than 6 months till age 16. Let's see what happens....

my husband did send my pcc with the ds-230 to nvc. i would recommend getting 2 copies send 1 to nvc and keep the other copy for the interview.you should also call nvc to varify your checklist when sending documents to make sure you send all that is required we did that, they can only get tired of your calls but it will help you not to get a rfe.

I lived in many places as you husband live including bangalore.

I gave only one Local Police Clearence from Sonepat haryana, may permanent address.

And PCC from the passport office.

this what NVC website says: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciproc...ocity_3582.html

Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

* All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office. These are usually more dependable than those obtained at a local level and indicate that the subject had no serious criminal convictions on record at the time of passport issuance. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.

* Applicants over age 16, whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application, must also obtain a police clearance from the District Police Office serving the applicant's place of residence.

* Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.

* Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.

* Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

Hi Catie,

Thank you very much for response :) I emailed Chennai consulate last night and their response was same as yours. We do not need police clearance from the District Police Office from all 3 places, just the present one. I am so glad. I've emailed back asking if police clearance from passport office from Bangalore is valid or not or does he have to go to Surat. Here is what Bangalore passport office site mentioned:

How do I apply for a Police clearance Certificate (PCC) ?

* Apply using Form-2 (Miscellaneous Services).

* Apply using Form-2 (Miscellaneous Services).

* If the passport was issued from any other passport office, then produce proof of residence in Karnataka & furnish a set of Personal Particulars forms.

This gave us impression that Bangalore passport office clearance would be ok. Let's see what answer we get back. I am 50% relieved now :)

Your husband actually needs to get a PCC from every place he has lived since the age of 16. How recently was his passport issued? If its less than 6 months old, you should be fine with only a Banglore Local PCC and a Passport PCC.

1. He lived in his hometown till 12th.

2. Then he moved to Gandhinagar for college.

3. Then he moved to Bangalore for job

His passport was made in Surat.

So he needs police PCC from 3 places + passport PCC from Surat or Bangalore?
