My husband watches this Egyptian soap every night and OMG you'd think someone killed someone every two seconds they way the men AND the women yell! I can't even imagine yelling at my husband the way these women yell at their men on tv. Why? Does saying something louder make it easier to understand or something???? Totally gets on my nerves because everytime I hear the yelling I run to see what happened and 9 times out of 10 it's over nothing.

I'm actually addicted and I have no freakin' clue what they're saying! When my favorite people come on I have to bug him and say "what did she say? what did HE do NOW ???" The show that he watches is Kalb Alkhatr I think.

When I was little I remember always thinking my uncle was mad because he talked so loudly!

People in the ME are just loud, as are Americans. Europeans won't hesitate to point out how obnoxiously loud they find Americans.

Nobody though can top the Chinese(incl. Taiwanese) for loudness - sorry....

I used to live with a Taiwanese woman and every time she would talk with her mother you'd think it was WWIII - one time after an especially heated exchange I asked what was the matter and she said 'oh nothing, she was just telling me about a sale she went to'....

I live in a largely Chinese neighborhood and she was most definitely not an exception to the rule.

LOL I used to get addicted to the Ramadan "specials" and yeah couldn't understand much of it but still was addicted. I could tell what was going on by facial expressions and tone of voice. My all time fave is El Hajj Metwali...oldie but def. a goodie.

Dunno why they yell but most MENA people are loud talkers (I know generalizing). Oh and most LOVE the TV just blaring. It's like they all need hearing aides. Again I know I'm generalizing but I've been around a lot of MENA ppl and they've all been like that.

LOL a lot of times he'll be on the phone with his sisters and I'll actually feel bad that they're fighting and I'll ask what is going on and he'll look at me like I had three heads or something 'cause they were just talking about nothing. lol. Kind of reminds me of my ex who is Italian but the difference is I can't figure out what he's saying. I think Arabic is a very strong strong language though too so that prolly makes a big difference. I used to think the Russian language was strong but I think Arabic blows doors off of Russian.

Yeah, Chinese people can sound really shrill like fingernails down a chalkboard. But the overzealous hand gestures loud Arabs use make them all the scarier looking.

Sometimes it's fun to sit at a cafe and people-watch and make up your own dialogue when you don't understand the language people are speaking. When I first moved to Germany everyone was plotting to take over the world. Then I learned the language and realized they were just grumbling about not having enough cash for another beer.
