Hi all,

My wife's I-130 just got approved, and I am working on getting her police certificates now.

According to what I read:

"If the applicant lived in a different part of their country of nationality for more than 6 months after and was 16 years or older, THEN the applicant needs a

police certificate from the police authorities of that locality."

Does that mean if my wife has lived in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing, she would need a police certificate from each location? Does she need to travel to those locations again? I have heard conflicting suggestion from other people that she only needs to get it from her "hukou" (registered residence), which will pull in info from all of China.

Has anyone have to deal with getting multiple police certificates before? I have read all the available resources including the reciprocity but nothing says definitively which way I should go with regards to this.

Sorry for asking this again, I am still not able to find info on this after a day of online search.

In China there is only ONE police cert, it covers the whole country, itican be applied for at the PSB located where citizen's residency (national ID) and needs to be brought to a notary office for translation to English.

i am having the same difficulty and i am even here in china. i tried to ask someone to get said police cert. for me at the PSB where they have me registered but she said the police officer told her they never issued one before so they cant also give me one. but she said, the school can make a certificate like a good moral certificate then bring it to PSB for them to attest to that...WOULD THAT BE enough?

and also, the police officer can speak and understand english very well, can i have them make me a CHINESE and ENGLISH copies so i need not to have it translated but just have the english version notarized? any idea? my contract is gonna end soon so i am trying to work this out as i may have problems later if i go home to my country without taking a copy with me.

China will not issue a police cert to a non-resident, a person who is only visiting China on a visitor's visa. If you are in China on a resident visa you need to register your presence at the PSB office where you are living, in fact you are required to register if visiting for longer than a few days, if you have not or did not, then they cannot issue a cert.

Yes a good moral cert from school that the PSB attests to, and an English translation should work. All it is saying is that during your stay in China you did not commit any crimes, which is what the Counselor officer issuing a visa is looking for.
