Hi I am getting ready to send the documents to the NVC for my stepchildren after going through the I-130 process with USCIS and I was curious do I send the original documents it asks for in the DS230? I am kind of skeptical of turning in anything original through the mail and do not want them to lose anything. Are copies okay here or what kind of documents are they looking for exactly??? Thanks!!

Original Document Requirements

The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to submit original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity).

Photocopy Requirement

In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents.

Typically originals are returned at the visa interview.

Yeah I don't like the words "typically" you used..what if they are not returned? these documents are obviously important...

Have photo copies handy at the interview and request the originals returned.

OR later you can file a G-884 to USCIS requesting them returned if for some reason the consulate seals them into the immigrations packet or perhaps if you are traveling with the children you could ask the POE officer for them.

You will have several ways to get them returned.

OR ask a lawyer or county clerk in your area where you can get "certified" copies done and send the certified copies to NVC

oh yeah i just realized..i was thinking about doing certified copies okay but it isn't for me domestically..that would be easy..the problem is in indonesia where i need the copies from they do things differently..they only give one original and that's it..you lose it then it is so hard to get another..you actually have to report it to the police describing you lost it and you need a lot of money to go through everything

so anyways what if i take a copy that i made of the documents and get it stamped by the issuing department in indonesia of say birth certificates or court papers or whatever..would this count as a certified document?? hah thanks again.

Since a DS-3032 is filed this lets US citizen in USA handle sending the DS-230 and documents to NVC, in this case when you get these documents from your children, simply get a certified copies made here in the USA.

I would get certified copies of them in the USA before you send them to NVC. Check with local clerk's office in the USA.

As for in Indonesia, you may have to ask around, perhaps ask a lawyer in Indonesia, lawyers routinely need to make certified copies.

Ok, i'll try to find information here, thanks

one last option, her mom in Indonesia make all the copies for that paper, and she can get stamp/legalization from the office who issues all that documents, that's what they do there, they bring originals, and copies to the office , they will look, is original same and accurate with the copy and they stamp the copy as a legalization, that's it

Do u think it's fine like that? it's certified copy right
