I never really remember it ever being called Z'ed' in Canada until the 90's. Maybe I never noticed or maybe people just never said it, but growing up in the 70's and 80's even in Southern Ontario everyone I remember called it Z (zee).

Maybe a lot was because I was brought up on the rhyme from Seaseme Street and this was before Canada hijacked the show and induced 'Canadian Content' changing the letter from Z to a Zed or something.

I just know it just sounds really odd and strange to hear it called Zed, though now when I visit Ontario, it seems everyone now says it that way. It was like everyone in the early 90's jumped on this whole Canada kick and started trying to show they have a unique identity or something and started using the British term for it more. No clue. Still sounds really weird and foreign...

That may just be a Windsor thing. Or it is that you never noticed it. lol. The rest of Ontario says zed.

Actually it was a Guelph thing, didn't live in Windsor until College and that's when I noticed Canadians pronouncing it as Zed instead of Z.

And yes Holidays are things like Christmas and Thanksgiving etc. Vacation is when you take time off to go on a trip etc (hence going to a vacation destination)...

He found it extremely amusing that you could purchase beer to go from any bar here in the States. To the point that he always took pictures of beer prices to show his friends and went so far as to take a picture of a bartender putting a 6-pack into a paper bag for a patron to take home. The bartender didn't look quite as amused as my husband did.

He hasn't been to BC then! LOL

You wouldn't ditch me even if I was sprayed by a skunk 10 times!

I would!

Actually it was a Guelph thing, didn't live in Windsor until College and that's when I noticed Canadians pronouncing it as Zed instead of Z.

Interesting. Okay, all the people from Guelph chime in here!

When my parents were visiting last year, my husband and my Dad played a round of golf while my Mum and I went shopping. We got back before they were finished so we ordered a jug of beer in the clubhouse while we were waiting. The bartender looked at us funny and said "Jugs?" and held up her breasts. We got even more confused and were like..... ..... And then it dawned on us that we'd said the wrong word. So we're standing there going..... ummmm.... what's another word for jug? So I'm pointing at the jugs and going..... "One of those" until my Mum finally remembered and yelled "Pitcher!" OMG.

one of my co-workers asked me the other day if we have July 4th in Canada.

I said ,Yes along with every other day of July.

Then we were talking about Thanksgiving and wanted to know if we have Thanksgiving in Canada.

I said of course we do!

I had a person ask me if we have roads in Canada.

Uh ya, the roads end right at the border, cuz we use dogsled teams.

EVERYBODY here thinks that I should be used to all the snow we get down here cuz I'm from Canada. I always have to explain that where I'm from in Canada we don't get a ton of snow!

hehe I just found this thread and I love it. I've been here in phoeniz AZ for the last three months and my best friend from edmonton just came down here with his wife. He was born in canada but his family's jamaican. Anyways, I showed him around work one day and the next day my foreman asked me "So you guys have black people up there?"

and he was serious. He thought we were all white. He was actually serious.

 What is it with Albertans and Arizona; my brother's next door neighbour is from Taber. The only black folks in Canada are sons and daughters of Eire, haven't you ever heard of the Black Irish?

EVERYBODY here thinks that I should be used to all the snow we get down here cuz I'm from Canada. I always have to explain that where I'm from in Canada we don't get a ton of snow!

I get that here too a lot. People are amazed I hate cold, hate snow, don't ski, hate hockey etc. They always bring up that "you were Canadian, you should be used to it". I had to explain southern Ontario in the summer (in the 90's anyways) was generally hot and humid, where 100 degrees and 100% humidity would melt a person.

I also have to explain that the winters could be really cold, but this is one of the benefits of leaving, so I didn't have to deal with it. I said just because I lived there doesn't mean I am adapted to the weather and it somehow magically makes me related to snowmen or something.

Funny thing one guy I used to know from Phoenix hated the heat with a passion and moved up to Seattle and loved it. I had to ask him why he hated Phoenix, he was from there and should be used to it. He looked at me and goes, ok you made your point...
