hi still confused on the DS-160 electronic application is this the one you have to fill out or can you just use the paper DS-156

Acording to DOS DS-160 is not yet available.

USE: https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp The electronic online form retains no data, it just uses the information entered to generate the barcode on page 3.

This may be a consulate specific question. There is actually an electronic DS-156 which can be found here:

The Bangkok consulate requires this version.

DEFINITELY use the paper DS-156, but make sure to fill it out online so that it will generate the barcode. Don't stress yourself out trying to fill out the DS-160 on the embassy's website. My fiance and I wasted hours and hours trying to fill it out several different times, with no success. Someone else called the embassy about it and was told that they were just testing out the DS-160 to see if it worked, and it didn't. (Why they still have it online, I have no idea!)
