Hi,

I'm a UK citizen presently waiting for an I-130 to be processed so I can join my wife in the US on an IR1.

Looking ahead at what I'll need to submit to the consulate, I see that I'll need my military record. I am a serving member of the Territorial Army, and I don't intend to terminate that service until I emigrate. This will be straightforward, as I can leave on a month's notice.

The only info on the consulate's web site says rather little:

Persons who have served in the military forces of any country must obtain one copy of their military record.

Does anyone with UK military experience know what record I need, and where I can request it?

Is the consulate looking for evidence of discharge from service (which I don't have yet)?

Any guidance from someone who's been through this would be most welcome.

Thanks! Tony M

Military Records

Available. Military discharge certificates are issued to enlisted personnel, non-commissioned personnel, and petty-officer personnel of the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines.

Officer personnel are not issued discharge certificates, but are usually able to obtain a letter from the appropriate office listed below confirming their release from the Armed Forces.

Details of service in the Armed Forces may be obtained as follows: (FOLLOW THE LINK)

Thanks! The thing is that I haven't been discharged; I intend to serve up till I receive my visa, and as a part-timer I can leave at 30 days notice. So my rephrased question now is: "I don't have a discharge certificate; is it actually the discharge they want evidence of (in which case I may have to quit early), or will they be happy with just my record to date?"

Many thanks! TonyM
