Several years back when I worked in the ER, a pediatric nurse had been out partying and had picked her baby up at a babysitter. She drove into her garage and closed the garage door. She left the car running, went into the house without the baby, mind you, and passed out on the couch. She woke up the next morning and was looking for the baby and found her dead in the car seat with the car still running. She came back to work after the funeral and when we would call the peds floor to give report on a child being admitted, we refused to give report to her. The nursing management finally removed her from patient care and when she was prosecuted, she was fired.

I agree, very touching those stories. I really hope that I can keep my 5 senses together and always remember my kids.

So some of you are saying there is another reason not to buy big highway yachts? Because you might not be able to see your baby in all the excess room? hmm

And really about people getting drunk and not having an overnight babysitter, it's SOOO irresponsible that even if the baby hadn't died it should be illegal. It's illegal to be under the influence and drive, what about under the influence and taking care of an infant? urgh

I watched the video she took some pain pills for her knee and wine before picking up the kids, she said she blacked out right after they got home, and did not wake up until the next morning.

I wonder if her 6 yrs old did not notice that the baby was left in the car either? Or maybe he did but could not do anything to get the baby out of the car....

Really sad.... I hope she never sees her 3 and 6 yrs again.

Couple of these cases in Brasil last couple of years as well. One the parent was simply irresponsible, left the baby in the car to run inside a store really quickly, but it was over 100 degrees and the baby died of heat. Parent is in jail. Second case was the routine thing, the parent always dropped the baby at the daycare and then the wife at work, that particular day the wife had a different schedule so he dropped the wife off first and then forgot about the baby and went straight to work himself. I think he's also been prosecuted and is in jail.

In regards to the nurse, she lack responsibility. I do not pity her.

She knows she has to drive with her child in the car. Yet, she drinks. That is the irresponsibility thing to do. In those web sites they show video of cars aftermath with all the gory scenes of children getting instantly beheaded from accidents, the baby got squashed by rollover SUV. Those accidents are real, and caught by spectators with their camera phone. After seeing those, I don't have any pity for those who drink and drive.

That is so very sad. :(

I remember when my kids were 1 and 2 years old I packed them in the minivan and proceeded to go to work. Normally I'd drop them off at daycare but for whatever reason my mind didn't register that step and I took a different way to work. I even was singing and laughing with the 2 yr old while the 1 yr old slept. I got into work in Boston, opened up the backseat to get my briefcase and then light dawned over marblehead and I realized I had just brought my kids to work with me by accident! I ended up calling in sick 'cause I took it as a sign that the kids needed mommytime that day. lol. So basically I can understand kid-induced brain fog but seriously it's got to sink in at some point that something's wrong.
