Now that I think of it wasn't there an Israeli special forces type on one of the hijacked planes on 9/11. Lot of good his training did him.

That is a Straw man argument.

He didn't have any weapons on him. They did. They also had surprise and the disdain for human life. Makes a big difference.

It is speculated that he attempted to intercede with the guys that started in the First class section (where he/they were), but the terrorists were smart, and had guys in the economy that came up behind him, and slit his throat, from behind.

How so?

The comment was made previously by someone else that if the Virginia Tech students were somehow "prepared" that they wouldn't have been victimised by the killer. Essentially its blaming the victims for something that none of them could have reasonably forseen and which was beyond their experience.

The same rationale surely applies to the guy on 9/11 - he didn't have a gun (neither did the Virginia Tech students), neither did he expect the plane to be hijacked and was essentially caught with his pants down (just as the students weren't expecting an armed gunman to burst into the dorms and classrooms and start plugging away).

The reality is that there are situations where you get caught flat-footed. Guns are not allowed on planes (and shouldn't be) just as they aren't (and shouldn't be) allowed in classrooms. Its not difficult to understand - but some of the pro-gun folks would have you believe that there should be no restriction at all on where a person is allowed to carry a gun.

An even simpler analogy comes to mind - that in a thunderstorm there is a possiblity that I could be struck by lightning, but that doesn't mean I'm going to wear rubber boots on the offchance...
