Hello once again, my friends. If everthing goes as scripted, I might be in the U.S.A. and become a wife in a couple of months. And now, I am thinking on where would be a nice place in the U.S.A. to have our honeymoon. Can you suggest any particular place or two, maybe a resort town where honeymooners abound or perhaps a secluded quiet romantic place. We'll also take into full consideration the costs, as the groom-to-be and I belong to a clan of legendary frugal Ilocanos. :D Please include a description of the place, if I am not asking for too much. Marami pong salamat!

I'd recommend Galveston, Texas, unless it's hurricane season, of course! Nice and quiet little town by the Gulf of Mexico, with beaches, good seafood and wonderful sightseeing. You can also visit the fishing piers that dot the seawall and rent fishing tackle and catch a spreckled sea trout. The City of Houston is only 30 minutes away and you can spend your nights away in Texas nightspots or dine at the legendary Pappasito's. Then, you can drive a little farther east to hit the casinos at Lake Charles, Lousiana.

Hello, I notice your profile says Cave Creek , AZ, which means you will be very close to Phoenix and Scottsdale. I went to college in that area, and based on my personal experience, I would highly recommend a resort in Scottsdale. It's a very close drive and many resorts there will offer "locals" rates at a huge discount. Many resorts there include spas, horseback riding, great restaurants, peace and quiet and breath-taking scenary, all within a 30 mins drive! If you are looking to get out of town, you can always drive 4 hours north to the Grand Canyon and check out the all the nice scenary of northern AZ.

If you like to gamble, Las Vegas is 4.5 hours drive northwest, or you can avoid the crowds of Las Vegas, and settle for the smaller gambling town of Laughlin, NV (90 mins south of Las Vegas).

Let me know if you would like any other suggestions in AZ/surrounding areas. I worked in the tourist industry there while I was enrolled in school, so I can offer many alternatives for you at a low cost. Happy travels

Hi neighbor! I'm in N. Phoenix, and RheaNick is in Awatukee. :)

In our own backyard, I've two suggestions with a short drive north.

http://www.skyranchlodge.com

A beutiful place, with awesome view of the red rocks in Sedona. The Lodge and the tiny Airport are the only things up there. Ask about the suites, which have a small kitchenette. But, for what they charge, I bet you can eat out at all three meals and save. The Airport Restaurant is pretty good, but my favorite is the Alien Diner. Just ask them, and they'll give you directions. Picture good, heary America diner food, with some Greek options to choose from.

Half an hour further into Oak Creek is...

http://www.garlandslodge.com/

WHile it's probably too cold now, you COULD attempt to use the river at Slide Rock State Park. But, this place is probably going to offer more solitude and privacy, and be a further drive from eating and tourist sites in Sedona.

IF you choose this route, or even anything in that area, be sure to check out this wonderful shopping and dining area...

http://www.tlaq.com/

It's designed to mimic a small, walled-in Mexican village.

Moving on w/life

I wish to thank you all with your suggestions, especially to you my friends from Arizona - jamster0105, Mister Fancypants & 4MYEVE. Scottsdale might be too close, Sedona and the Grand Canyon seem very inviting, and Vegas could be a nice option, although my groom says he likes Lake Tahoe better than Vegas. We don't have to go to Vegas for the shows because he says that we can see and hear Elvis, Michael Jackson, Gloria Stefan, Tina Turner and others in one show at Casino Arizona. But then, he continues, the drive from Phoenix to Vegas through saguaro forests and a stop at Hoover Dam could be very entertaining.

We'll keep Galveston in mind, too, as we have some relatives in Houston.

Hi Linda,

My suggestions to you are Napa Valley and Sonoma County, Calif., just outside San Francisco. You can stay at a hotel at SFO and drive through the city and through the Golden Gate Bridge, where the fog chills the air, and then you’ll be in California wine country. Join a wine testing tour and I am pretty sure that you and your man can savor your favorite chardonnay or merlot that will make you forget the Ilocano basi that you had in your native land.

From your hotel at SFO, you take the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) train to downtown San Francisco, where you can explore the city by foot or by cable car. You can also drive down to Monterey, about an hour and a half away, where you can see, according to Robert Louis Stevenson, “the greatest meeting of land and sea."

Being that you are both Ilocano, Hawaii is the perfect place. Most of the Filipinos here are Ilocano, and 30% to 50% of the population here is Filipino. Of course it can cost more, but there are alot of deals now. Also come to Kauai, since Waikiki and Maui are so fake now.

Thanks, wacky & Psoas10 for your recommendations of Hawaii and, of course, we'll take these into consideration. Both of us have plenty of relatives in the state. My groom-to-be is an avid golfer and I think he is thinking about Princeville in Kauai or Kapalua in Maui. Mahalo! :star:

I suggest somewhere here in my home state, the Peach State. Reckon Callaway Gardens should be a good one and go hog wild now! :star:

~ I love the idea of a honeymoon...Hawaiian style! ~

Here's an idea that is a change of pace...a scenic drive along the Oregon / Northern California coast highway.

Your hubby may enjoy the local golf courses in the small towns along the coast.
